The Clone Wars - S3E20 - "Citadel Rescue"

1:04 - Anakin:  "We're gonna have to fight our way off this rock."  In A New Hope, Luke disdainfully refers to Tatooine using the same expression; after C-3PO asks if there's anything he can do to help, Luke replies, "Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock" [19:58].

3:15 - Sobeck (to Dooku, about the hyperspace coordinates):  "I will see to it that they are soon back in our possession."  While the specific diction is a bit different, Vader says something similar in A New Hope during a meeting on the Death Star:  "The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands" [37:52].

4:00 - In the background of this shot, Commander Cody jumps on top of a crab droid and fires his blaster into it.  In Revenge of the Sith, an-other clone trooper does the same thing [1:20:01].

6:34 - Anakin (to Ahsoka, discussing the Jedi's role in the war):  "But we aren't soldiers; we're peacekeepers."  Mace Windu also says this in Attack of the Clones, although slightly differently:  "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers" [4:49].

6:49 - Ahsoka:  "Did you hear that?"

Even Piell:  "Yes, we're going to have company."

Both of these lines also appear in A New Hope.  At the beginning of the movie, C-3PO asks R2-D2, "Did you hear that?" [2:47] (incidentally, this is the first line of dialogue), and later, Han yells, "Luke, we're gonna have company!" [1:15:46].

7:13 - Sobeck:  "Tighten your grip, K2-B4."  Leia uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers" [57:44].

12:35 - Sobeck:  "I will deal with this personally."  It's probably coincidental, but this seems to combine Grievous' line "I will deal with this Jedi slime myself" in Revenge of the Sith [58:03], Vader's line "See to it personally, commander" in A New Hope [8:42], and Vader's "I will deal with them myself," referring to the Rebel strike force, in Return of the Jedi [56:10].

20:36 - There's a brief musical cue of the Imperial March as Tarkin and Anakin shake hands.

The Clone Wars - S3E19 - "Counterattack"

3:17 - Count Dooku:  "You may cease the propriety, Commander Sobeck."  Vader says basically the same thing (to Moff Jerjerrod) in Return of the Jedi:  "You may dispense with the pleasantries, commander" [3:58].

15:26 - Anakin (to Rex):  "Throw me a charge."  Han Solo says the same thing in Return of the Jedi:  "Throw me another charge" [1:51.25].

The Clone Wars - S3E18 - "The Citadel"

4:55 - Fives (about being carbon frozen):  "Are, uh, we sure this thing is safe?  I don't want to end up a wall decoration."  In A New Hope, C-3PO also asks this (to R2 about the escape pod):  "Are you sure this thing is safe?" [7:18].  The "wall decoration" part is a reference to what later happens to Han Solo in Return of the Jedi.

6:52 - Tactical droid K2-B4 (to the Republic's re-programmed battle droid):  "What is your cargo?"  In Return of the Jedi, Admiral Piett asks a similar question:  "Shuttle Tydirium, what is your cargo and destination?" [55:27].  More generally, the whole situation of sneaking into enemy territory in a stolen ship is similar.

The Clone Wars - S3E17 - "Ghosts of Mortis"

1:45 - Ahsoka (speaking about the Jedi shuttle):  "After that, I have no guarantees she'll hold together."  In A New Hope, Han Solo (referring to the Millennium Falcon) uses the same expression:  "Don't worry; she'll hold together" [1:34:57].

3:29 - Father (to Anakin):  "Do not underestimate my son."  Warnings against underestimation occur twice in Return of the Jedi.  Luke tells Jabba, "It's your choice, but I warn you not to underestimate my powers" [24:26], and later Yoda tells Luke, "Luke, do not, do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor" [43:31].  In The Phantom Menace, Nute Gunray advises a battle droid, "These Jedi are not to be underestimated" [10:43], and in A New Hope, Vader tells Tarkin, "Don't underestimate the Force" [1:16:33].

5:25 - Qui-Gon:  "Remember your training, Anakin:  trust your instincts."  This is similar to what he tells him in The Phantom Menace:  "Feel, don't think; use your instincts" [57:47].

8:08 - Father (to Obi-Wan):  "You cannot interfere!"  This is similar to what Obi-Wan says to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "If you choose to face Vader, you will do it alone.  I cannot interfere." [1:24:25].

9:25 - Anakin's vision of the future includes Obi-Wan's "You were my brother, Anakin" from Revenge of the Sith [2:00:25], Vader's "I hate you" from Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15], and the Death Star's destruction of Alderaan from A New Hope [59:05]:

10:20:  Son:  "Join me, and together we will destroy this emperor you see in your vision, and we shall end war, corruption, and suffering throughout the galaxy."  As in the previous episode, there's a resemblance between this line and what Vader says to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back ("Join me, and I will complete your training" [1:50:39] and "Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son" [1:51:45]) and what Dooku says to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones ("You must join me, Obi-Wan, and together we will destroy the Sith!" [1:33:07]).

11:50 - Anakin (to Obi-Wan):  "You will try to stop me."  In Revenge of the Sith, after Obi-Wan says, "I will do what I must," Anakin replies with a similar line:  "You will try" [1:47:46].

13:43 - Ahsoka:  "Mm, nice job."  She says this about Obi-Wan's progress in climbing out of a chasm.  It's a bit unclear whether she means this genuinely or sarcastically, but if it's the latter, there's a resemblance to Obi-Wan's sarcastic "Good job" about Anakin and Padmé's attempt to rescue him in Attack of the Clones [1:45:00].

20:07 - When the Father dies, he disappears in the same way that Yoda does in Return of the Jedi [45:07].  Obi-Wan's death in A New Hope [1:32:22] is similar but occurs in between shots, not within a single shot.

Starting around 8:33 during Anakin's conversation with the Son, there's a brief musical cue that's similar to "Battle of the Heroes" from Revenge of the Sith, and there are musical cues of the Imperial march at the end of Anakin's vision and at around 11:44 when Anakin talks to Obi-Wan.

The Clone Wars - S3E16 - "Altar of Mortis"

1:42 - Son (to Anakin):  "Join me, and together we can change the balance of the universe, my friend."  Twice in The Empire Strikes Back, Vader says similar things to Luke:  "Join me, and I will complete your training" [1:50:39] and "Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son" [1:51:45], and in Attack of the Clones, Count Dooku says something similar to Obi-Wan:  "You must join me, Obi-Wan, and together we will destroy the Sith!" [1:33:06].

3:03 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin):  What in the blazes are you talking about?"  He uses this same expression in Attack of the Clones:  "What in the blazes is he [Anakin] doing there [on Tatooine]?" [1:22:27].

6:56 - Obi-Wan:  "Anakin:  always on the move."  He uses this same expression to describe Anakin in Revenge of the Sith too:  "Always on the move" [10:01].

8:02 - Father:  "I am not dead yet."  This seems to be a reference to what Obi-Wan says of himself in A New Hope:  "Oh, he's not dead, not yet" [31:24].

8:12 - Son (to the Father):  "I hate you!"  Vader also says this to Obi-Wan near the end of Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15].

13:07 - Son:  "I have done what is right or what is wrong, depending on your point of view."  This seems to be a reference to either Anakin's "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil" in Revenge of the Sith [1:58:33] or Obi-Wan's "from a certain point of view" in Return of the Jedi [46:23].

18:23 - Anakin screams "No!" after Ahsoka falls.  In terms of masters and apprentices, this is something of the opposite of situations in The Phantom Menace, where Obi-Wan screams "No!" after Qui-Gon is struck down [1:59:48], and in A New Hope, where Luke screams "No!" after Obi-Wan is struck down [1:32:24].  In different circumstances, Vader also screams "No!" in Revenge of the Sith [2:08:43], and Luke does so in The Empire Strikes Back [1:51:30].

The Clone Wars - S3E15 - "Overlords"

0:20 - Narrator:  "A transmission has been intercepted far beyond the Outer Rim, deep in the Crelythiumn system."  This line contains the same words that are used in Vader's interrogation of Captain Antilles in A New Hope [5:44].  Vader asks, "Where are those transmissions you intercepted?  What have you done with those plans?" to which Antilles replies, "We intercepted no transmissions."

0:56 - Rex (to Anakin):  "Sir, we are at the rendezvous point, and there's no sign of you on our scanners."  Luke also uses this expression during the Battle of Yavin at the end of A New Hope; after Red Ten asks Luke if he sees any fighters, Luke replies, "No sign of any- wait, comin' in point three five" [1:51:59].

0:59 - Anakin:  "Oh, come on.  That's impossible.  Something's wrong.  We're at the exact coordinates where the distress signal originated, but there's nothing here.  Rex is at the exact same coordinates, and he's not here."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke also says, "That's impossible" [1:51:21].

1:21 - Obi-Wan (after the shuttle loses power):  "Not good."

Ahsoka:  "Everything's dead, even the life support."

These lines have some similarity to what Anakin says to R2 after they land in the droid control ship in The Phantom Menace:  "Everything's overheated.  Oops, this is not good." [1:58:57].

2:01 - Obi-Wan:  "Everyone strap yourselves in."  Han Solo uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "Go strap yourselves in; I'm gonna make the jump to lightspeed" [56:46].

3:49 - Obi-Wan (in response to Anakin's asking if Obi-Wan or Ahsoka heard Daughter speaking):  "I didn't hear anything."  In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon has a similarly dismissive "I don't sense anything" [3:07] in response to Obi-Wan's bad feeling.  The resemblance here, which is probably just coincidental, is more in the delivery than specific diction.  At 3:28, Obi-Wan says, "I don't see anything" after Ahsoka points out a reflection, but this is said in a different manner.

3:57 - Anakin (to Daughter):  "Who are you?"  This too is probably just coincidental, but in The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar Binks has essentially the same line ("Whosa are yousa?" [29:00]) delivered with equal stresses on "Whosa" and "yousa," which is the same way Anakin says it here.

5:59 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin):  "Are you alright?"  In The Phantom Menace, Anakin asks Qui-Gon, "Are you alright?" [1:17:31].  In Attack of the Clones, Padmé asks Anakin, "Ani, are you alright?" [50:02], and later a clone trooper asks Padmé, "Are you alright?" [2:05:54].  In Revenge of the Sith, Anakin asks the Chancellor, "Are you alright?"[11:49], and a bit later, Mace Windu asks him, "Chancellor Palpatine, are you alright?" [24:53].  Padmé also asks Anakin, "Are you alright?" [1:27:59].  In A New Hope, Luke asks Obi-Wan this [59:16] and Biggs asks Luke [1:46:44], and in The Empire Strikes Back, Luke asks, "Rogue Two, are you alright?" [30:31].  Luke also asks Han, "Are you alright?" when they're captured by Jabba in Return of the Jedi [28:31].

6:08 - Anakin (to Obi-Wan, referring to the Daughter):  "I'll follow her and find out how to get off this rock."  Luke uses the same expression in A New Hope; after C-3PO asks if there's anything he can do to help, he replies, "Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock" [19:58].

7:48 - Obi-Wan (after Ahsoka asks what the Brother was):  "I'm not quite sure."  In A New Hope, after Luke sees R2-D2's message and asks who Leia is, C-3PO gives basically the same response:  "I'm afraid I'm not quite sure, sir" [21:35].

The Clone Wars - S3E14 - "Witches of the Mist"

2:12 - Count Dooku holds two lightsabers to Savage in the same way that Anakin does to Dooku in Revenge of the Sith [14:08], although none of the shots really match:

3:52 - Dooku (to Savage):  "Concentrate."  Yoda also says this (to Luke) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:08:40 and 1:16:38].

4:03 - Savage (to Dooku):  "What you ask is impossible."  Luke says something similar to Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back:  "You want the impossible" [1:11:21].  Moff Jerjerrod, speaking to Vader and referring to the Emperor, has the same complaint in Return of the Jedi:  "But he asks the impossible" [4:21].

4:37 - Savage (to Dooku):  "I hate you!"  Vader says this to Obi-Wan near the end of Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15].

6:50 - Anakin salutes Brother Viscus after he releases him.  Perhaps coincidentally, in Return of the Jedi, Luke gives a similar salute before feigning a jump into the Sarlacc pit [32:32], and Han and Lando salute each other after Han lends the Millennium Falcon to Lando [52:20].

17:22 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin, about Savage):  "We'll take him together."  He also says this (also to Anakin) in Attack of the Clones, referring there to Count Dooku [2:04:54].

The Clone Wars - S3E13 - "Monster"

20:31 - Knox screams, "No!" after his master is struck down.  The same situation is in The Phantom Menace (Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon) [1:59:48] and in A New Hope (Luke and Obi-Wan) [1:32:24].  While the context is different, Vader also screams, "No!" in Revenge of the Sith [2:08:43], and Luke does so in The Empire Strikes Back [1:51:30].

The Clone Wars - S3E12 - "Nightsisters"

17:00 - Ventress:  "I can smell his [Count Dooku's] stench a parsec away."  This is somewhat similar to what Leia says to Tarkin in A New Hope:  "I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board" [57:17].

The Clone Wars - S3E11 - "Pursuit of Peace"

[I don't have anything to say about this episode yet, but I didn't want to skip over it.  This post is acting as a place holder, and I'll update it in the future if I find something to note.]

The Clone Wars - S3E10 - "Heroes on Both Sides"

The title of this episode comes from a line in the opening crawl of Revenge of the Sith:  "There are heroes on both sides."

5:12 - Padmé:  "If only I could talk to Senator Bonteri."

Ashoka:  "Who's he?"

Padmé:  "He is a she.  A senator in the Confederacy of Independent Systems."

This is the same sort of confusion that Obi-Wan and Anakin experience with Zam Wesell in Attack of the Clones.  Anakin explains:  "I think he is a she, and I think she's a changeling." [22:28].

5:44 - Ahsoka:  "Well, Master Skywalker and I hold what we call 'aggressive negotiations' all the time."  In Attack of the Clones, Anakin says to Padmé:  "And when I got to them, we went into aggressive negotiations" [53:01], which he explains means "negotiations with a lightsaber."  Padmé also uses the phrase later:  "I call it aggressive negotiations" [1:54:08].

8:06 - Battle droid:  "Move along, please.  Move along."  In A New Hope, a sandtrooper has a similar line when, prompted by Obi-Wan's influence through the Force, he directs Luke into Mos Eisley:  "Move along.  Move along." [43:51].

8:26 - Mina Bonteri (to Padmé):  "Hello, old friend."  She also calls her "my old friend" a bit later [12:25].  Perhaps coincidentally, this same phrase is applied to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones when Palpatine suggests him as protection for Padmé:  "an old friend, like Master Kenobi" [6:34].  Count Dooku also uses the phrase when he calls Mace Windu "my old Jedi friend" [1:50:24] and just "old friend" [1:56:05].  In Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan says, "Goodbye, old friend" to Anakin as he leaves for Utapau [51:13], and Yoda refers to Qui-Gon as "an old friend" [2:09:56].  In A New Hope, Leia uses the phrase sarcastically to refer to stormtroopers when she says that she and Luke "ran into some old friends" [1:31:33]; in The Empire Strikes Back Yoda says that through the Force, Luke will see "Old friends long gone" [1:17:05]; and in Return of the Jedi Luke says, "I have a promise to keep to an old friend" [37:37], and Han calls C-3PO "an old friend of mine" [1:11:53].

13:18 - Visually, the Separatist Parliament seems to have been inspired by the British House of Commons:

20:27 - Padmé (about Mas Amedda's claim that the Separatists offered peace negotiations as a tactic to get the Republic to lower its defenses):  "No, that's not true."  Luke has a similar line in The Empire Strikes Back when Vader tells him about his father:  "That's not true.  That's impossible." [1:51:21].

The Clone Wars - S3E9 - "Hunt for Ziro"

13:52 - Obi-Wan:  "We must be cautious."  He also says this (to Luke) in A New Hope [42:44].
