Rebels - S3E6 - "The Last Battle"

5:13 - Kalani (Super tactical droid):  "If you will not fight, you will be terminated."  Vader's comment to Luke in Return of the Jedi is essentially the same:  "If you will not fight, then you will meet your destiny" [1:50:11].

6:16 - Chopper hits the Separatist shuttle to get it working again, which is the same thing that Han does with the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back [35:07].

10:08 - Kanan (after destroyer droids appear):  "Ezra, get back; they're too dangerous."  Obi-Wan makes the same comment as Luke rushes back to the farm in A New Hope:  "It's too dangerous!" [39:52].

12:14 - Kanan (to Rex):  "You alright?"  In The Phantom Menace, Padmé asks Anakin this [1:19:06], and in The Empire Strikes Back, Han asks this twice, once to Luke [22:12] and once to Leia [31:39].

19:12 - Ezra:  "Get to the ships!"  Padmé says almost the same thing to the Naboo pilots in The Phantom Menace:  "Get to your ships!" [1:47:08]

Rebels - S3E5 - "Hera's Heroes"

1:57 - Scout trooper (about The Ghost):  "Shoot it down!"  In Attack of the Clones, Anakin says nearly the same thing to a clone pilot, referring to Count Dooku:  "Shoot him down!" [2:02:59]

8:02 - Hera (after Ezra says it was easy to find the Kalikori):  "Eh, we're not out of this yet."  Han also tells Luke, "We're not out of this yet" in A New Hope, shortly before the battle with the Death Star's sentry ships [1:33:54].

9:08 - Hera:  "Chopper!  Am I glad to see you."  Luke says the same thing in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

20:41 - Thrawn (after an officer tells him the rebels are in range):  "Hold your fire."  Upon seeing that the escape pod jettisoned from the Tantive IV has no life forms, an Imperial officer commands, "Hold your fire" in A New Hope [7:08], and Obi-Wan says it to Anakin when he tries to shoot the buzz droids off Obi-Wan's starfighter in Revenge of the Sith:  "Hold your fire!  You're not helping here!" [6:03]

Rebels - S3E4 - "The Antilles Extraction"

0:13 - Pilot (to a woman in a hologram):  "Don't worry; you'll get your food supply."  "Don't worry" also appears in Attack of the Clones (Anakin tells Padmé, "Don't worry; I've given up trying to argue with you" [1:36:02]), Revenge of the Sith (C-3PO tells Padmé, "Don't worry; I'm sure he'll be alright," referring to Anakin [1:24:00], and a clone trooper tells Bail Organa, "Don't worry; the situation is under control [1:24:35]), A New Hope (Obi-Wan tells R2-D2, "Oh, don't worry; he'll be alright," referring to Luke [30:17]; Han tells Chewbacca, "Don't worry, Chewie; I think I know what he [Luke] has in mind" [1:12:12]; and Han tells Leia, "Don't worry; she'll hold together," referring to the Millennium Falcon [1:34:57]), The Empire Strikes Back (C-3PO tells R2, "Don't worry about Master Luke; I'm sure he'll be alright" [12:45]; Luke tells R2, "Don't worry, R2.  We're going!  We're going!" [36:07]; and Han tells Leia, "Don't worry" [1:20:04]), and Return of the Jedi (Lando, referring to Han, tells Nien Nunb, "Don't worry; my friend's down there; he'll have that shield down on time" [1:27:18]).

0:18 - Woman in the hologram:  "We had no idea the rebels were so well equipped."  There's some resemblance between this and what General Tagge says in A New Hope:  "The rebel alliance is too well-equipped" [37:02].

3:58 - Sabine (after the Imperial officer questions her credentials):  "That, um, that happens from time to time."  C-3PO uses this same expression in The Empire Strikes Back when he tells Leia, "Actually, R2 has been known to make mistakes from time to time" [12:31].

4:42 - Kanan (to Ezra, about Sabine):  "Don't worry; she'll be fine." See above, 0:13.

5:56 - Instructor Goran:  "Comscan is tracking rebel ships entering sector two."  General Veers also mentions Comscan in The Empire Strikes Back when he tells Vader, "Comscan has detected an energy field protecting an area of the sixth planet of the Hoth system" [23:01].

6:03 - Sabine:  "Right behind ya, two five."  Jek Porkins says something similar (to Biggs) in A New Hope:  "I'm right with ya, Red Three" [1:47:11].

10:22 - Sabine (to Wedge):  "Look, I want to do my part for the Empire, but firing on unarmed ships wasn't what I had in mind."  Han uses this expression in A New Hope:  "Don't worry, Chewie; I think I know what he [Luke] has in mind" [1:12:12].  In The Empire Strikes Back, Leia also asks Han, ""What'd you have in mind for your next move?" [1:14:52].

10:50 - Wedge (after Sabine hints at defection):  "What are you talkin' about?"  This line appears three times in A New Hope:  twice, C-3PO asks R2-D2, "What are you talking about?" [6:51 and 9:47], and later, in response to Luke's urge to rescue Leia, Han asks, "What are you talkin' about?" [1:11:03].  In Attack of the Clones, Anakin also asks Padmé, "What are you talking about?" [1:43:07].

11:08 - Wedge:  "What's your plan?"  In A New Hope, Han asks Luke the same thing [1:11:56].

12:03 - Instructor Goran (to Governor Pryce):  "With all due respect, Governor, I am trying to train pilots here."  In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's pilot also says, "With all due respect" ("With all due respect, the ambassadors for the Supreme Chancellor wish to board immediately" [2:06]), and Obi-Wan uses it in Revenge of the Sith while speaking to Mace Windu about Anakin ("With all due respect, Master, is he not the chosen one?" [40:32]).

14:41 - Instructor Goran:  "Four cadets have broken off from the main group toward the rebel ship."  Vader uses the same expression in A New Hope, when he tells two pilots, "Several fighters have broken off from the main group" [1:48:30].

16:39 - Wedge (after he unwittingly gives the Imperials Sabine's name):  "Blast it!"  Obi-Wan also says "Blast!" when Jango Fett ambushes him in Attack of the Clones ("Blast!  This is why I hate flying!" [1:08:22]), and Luke says it twice in A New Hope:  after R2-D2 disappears ("Blast it!" [26:49]) and when a TIE fighter is behind him during the Battle of Yavin ("Blast it, Biggs, where are you?" [1:49:09]).

17:33 - Hobbie (to Wedge):  "So what's your plan?"  See above, 11:08.

17:51 - Governor Pryce (after Sabine compliments her fighting):  "The Empire taught me well."  Vader tells Luke, "Obi-Wan has taught you well" in The Empire Strikes Back [1:44:42] and in Return of the Jedi [1:49:01].

18:40 - Agent Kallus (to Sabine):  "Don't shoot."  C-3PO says this to Jawas in A New Hope:  "Don't shoot!  Don't shoot!" [16:27].

Rebels - S3E3 - "The Holocrons of Fate"

0:26 - Rebel officer (to Ezra):  "Coming up on the rendezvous point, commander, but the transport's not responding."  In A New Hope, Han uses the same expression when he says, "Looks like we're coming up on Alderaan" [1:02:27].

1:29 - Ezra:  "Hera!  Am I glad to see you're alright!"  Luke says something similar in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

1:41 - Maul (after Kanan asks who it is):  "Just an old friend, Master Jedi."  The phrase "old friend" is also used in Attack of the Clones (where Palpatine suggests "an old friend, like Master Kenobi" to protect Padmé [6:34] and Count Dooku calls Mace Windu "my old Jedi friend" [1:50:24] and just "old friend" [1:56:05]), in Revenge of the Sith (where Obi-Wan says, "Goodbye, old friend" to Anakin as he leaves for Utapau [51:13] and Yoda refers to Qui-Gon as "an old friend" [2:09:56]), in A New Hope (where Leia sarcastically says, "We, uh, ran into some old friends" when Han asks her and Luke where they've been [1:31:33]), in The Empire Strikes Back (where Yoda says that through the Force, Luke will see "Old friends long gone" [1:17:05]), and in Return of the Jedi (where Luke says, "I have a promise to keep to an old friend" [37:37] and Han calls C-3PO "an old friend of mine" [1:11:53]).

4:21 - Maul (after Hera says she knows nothing about Kanan):  "That's not true."  Luke says the same thing in The Empire Strikes Back when Vader tells him about his father:  "That's not true.  That's impossible." [1:51:21].

6:46 - Ezra (upon seeing Bendu):  "I don't believe it."  Luke also says, "I don't, I don't believe it" in The Empire Strikes Back, after Yoda uses the Force to get his X-wing out of the swamp [1:13:10].

7:21 - Bendu (about bringing the holocrons together):  "Such a vergence carries grave danger."  The phrase "grave danger" also appears in The Phantom Menace (Yoda tells Obi-Wan, "The chosen one the boy may be; nevertheless, grave danger I fear in his training" [2:06:38]) and in Revenge of the Sith (Obi-Wan, referring to Anakin, tells Padmé, "He's in grave danger" [1:38:48]).

10:02 - Sabine:  "Chopper, magnetize!"  In Revenge of the Sith, one of the Neimoidians on General Grievous's ship gives this same command, albeit with a different application, to the battle droids:  "Magnetize!  Magnetize!" [16:33]

10:36 - Kanan (to Ezra):  "Trust me."  Han also says, "Trust me" (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

14:27 - Ezra (to Kanan):  "What's our plan?"  In A New Hope, Han asks Luke almost the same thing:  "What's your plan?" [1:11:56].

17:01 - Maul (to one of his droids):  "Terminate the prisoners."  Referring to Leia, Tarkin gives the same command in A New Hope:  "Terminate her immediately" [1:03:05].

20:08 - Kana (to Ezra):  "Trust me."  See above, 10:36.

Rebels - S3E2 - "Steps into Shadow - Part II"

7:06 - Bendu (to Kanan):  "Ah, your thoughts dwell on your apprentice."  In The Phantom Menace, Ki-Adi Mundi makes a similar comment to Anakin:  "Your thoughts dwell on your mother" [1:30:21].

12:08 - Commander Titus (to Governor Pryce):  "I assure you, Governor, we will capture these rebels momentarily."  Qui-Gon uses the same expression in The Phantom Menace; after Queen Amidala says that Senator Palpatine fears the Trade Federation wants to destroy her, he replies, "I assure you I will not allow that to happen" [1:36:33].  Palpatine uses it while talking to Mace Windu and addressing the senate in Revenge of the Sith ("And I assure you, the senate will vote to continue the war as long as Grievous is alive" [25:12] and "But I assure you, my resolve has never been stronger!" [1:35:16]) and while talking to Luke in Return of the Jedi ("I assure you we are quite safe from your friends here" [1:32:08]).

15:18 - Sabine (to Ezra):  "Spector Six, the Empire is here in orbit; we are in big trouble."  Han also says, "We're in trouble" after the Millennium Falcon fails to jump to hyperspace in The Empire Strikes Back [37:54].

16:36 - Sabine (after Hera orders the bombers onto the carrier):  "Copy, Ghost.  We are glad to see you."  Luke says the same thing in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

19:36 - Commander Sato (to rebel officer):  "Get us out of here."  In A New Hope, Han also says this (to Chewbacca):  "Chewie, get us outta here!" [55:26].

Rebels - S3E1 - "Steps into Shadow - Part I"

1:28 - Ezra (to Sabine, referring to Hondo):  "Trust me; we need the information he has."  Han also says, "Trust me" (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

6:11 - Zeb (about Ezra's influencing the Imperial walker pilot through the Force):  "Pretty wizard, eh?"  Anakin's friend Kitster uses a similar expression in The Phantom Menace:  "This is so wizard, Ani!" [54:25].

7:28 - Sith holocron (to Ezra):  "Your anger gives you strength, gives you focus."  Palpatine makes similar comments to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith:  "I can feel your anger.  It gives you focus, makes you stronger." [1:04:45].

12:14 - Kanan (to Ezra):  "Acting out of anger offers quick results, but it's a trap!"  Admiral Ackbar says, "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03], and Leia says it twice in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50], although both are speaking more literally.

14:09 - Ezra:  "Sabine, get us out of here."  Han also says this in A New Hope:  "Chewie, get us outta here!" [55:26].

15:53 - Sabine rapidly decelerates The Phantom so that the Mining Guild TIE fighter chasing it suddenly passes it, which is the same thing that Luke does with two Imperial speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi [59:47].

Rebels - S2E22 - "Twilight of the Apprentice - Part II"

1:49 - Kanan:  "Dealing with Inquisitors is one thing; Vader is another."  Han's comment to Obi-Wan in A New Hope is somewhat similar:  "Look, good against remotes is one thing.  Good against the living?  That's something else."  [1:02:20].  Luke also makes the same sort of comparison in The Empire Strikes Back after Yoda implies that he should use the Force to get his X-wing out of the swamp:  "Master, moving stones around is one thing; this is totally different!" [1:09:12].

3:58 - Maul (as Kanan tries to step onto the lift with Maul and Ezra):  "Only two.  No more, no less."  In The Phantom Menace, Yoda also uses this phrase to describe the Sith:  "Always two there are, no more, no less, a master and an apprentice" [2:07:59].

5:47 - Ezra (to Kanan):  "Trust me."  Han also says, "Trust me" (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

7:33 - Maul (to Ezra):  "Use your anger."  In Return of the Jedi, Palpatine similarly counsels Luke:  "Use your aggressive feelings, boy" [1:48:49].

7:48 - Maul (to Ezra, referring to the Seventh Sister):  "Strike her down!"  Palpatine uses this phrase in Return of the Jedi as he taunts Luke:  "Strike me down with all of your hatred, and your journey towards the dark side will be complete!" [1:45:00]

13:13 - Kanan:  "Chopper!  Am I glad to hear you!"  Luke says something similar in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

19:56 - Kanan (to Ezra):  "There's nothing we can do now."  In A New Hope, Obi-Wan tells Luke something similar after he finds his aunt and uncle dead:  "There's nothing you could have done, Luke, had you been there" [42:02].

Rebels - S2E21 - "Twilight of the Apprentice - Part I"

The title may be a reference to what Yoda says in Return of the Jedi:  "Twilight is upon me, and soon night must fall" [40:48].

0:20 - Rex (to Ahsoka):  "In my book, experience outranks everything."  He says the same thing to her shortly after they meet in The Clone Wars movie [12:11].

5:54 - Maul (to Ezra):  "Please put your weapon away.  I, I mean you no harm."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda says the same thing to Luke when he first meets him:  "Away put your weapon; I mean you no harm" [47:23].

6:36 - Maul (to Ezra):  "Why are you here?"  This continues the parallel with Luke and Yoda's meeting in The Empire Strikes Back; Yoda's next comment is:  "I am wondering:  why are you here?"  [47:27].

11:32 - Maul (explaining to Ezra how to get into the Sith temple):  "Two must lift these stones, no more, no less; that is the way of the Sith."  In The Phantom Menace, Yoda also uses this phrase to describe the Sith:  "Always two there are, no more, no less, a master and an apprentice" [2:07:59].

14:51  Maul (to Ezra):  "Unless you take risks, do what must be done, there will always be limits to your abilities."  In Revenge of the Sith, Sidious says the same thing, albeit as a command:  "Do what must be done, Lord Vader" [1:18:15].

18:26 - Maul (to Ezra as the Sith temple lifts him higher):  "Jump!"  Anakin, from the back of the reek, also calls this to Padmé in Attack of the Clones, while she's perched on top of her pillar in the Geonosian arena [1:48:56].

18:50 - Maul (to Ezra):  "Trust me."  Han also says, "Trust me" (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

19:55 - Kanan (to Chopper):  "What do you mean we've got company?"  Han uses a similar expression in A New Hope:  "Luke, we're gonna have company!" [1:15:46].

Rebels - S2E20 - "The Mystery of Chopper Base"

8:57 - Kanan (to the rest of the rebels as they enter a cave):  "Stay sharp, and stick together."  In A New Hope, Han Solo says, "Stay sharp" twice, once to Chewbacca before making the jump to hyperspace away from Tatooine [56:08] and once to Luke shortly before the Death Star's sentry ships attack [1:34:15].

10:04 - Ezra (to Kanan, before he tries to connect to one of the spiders):  "Trust me; I got this."  Han also says, "Trust me" (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

13:21 -  Kanan:  "Maybe this base isn't so perfect after all."
Hera:  "I'm not giving up without a fight.  Hang on!"
Zeb:  "Hera, get us outta here."
Hera:  "Ugh, it's no good.  I'm at full power.  Ah, they must have glued us down."

Han makes similar comments to Luke in A New Hope, when the Millennium Falcon is caught in the Death Star's tractor beam:  "There's nothin' I can do about it, kid; I'm at full power.  I'm gonna have to shut down, but they're not gonna get me without a fight." [1:04:57].  Earlier, he also says, "Chewie, get us outta here!" [55:26].

16:05 - Zeb (to Ezra):  "OK, kid, quick:  what's the plan?"  In A New Hope, Han asks Luke almost the same thing:  "What's your plan?" [1:11:56]

18:09 - Kanan (to Hera):  "Get us outta here."  See above, 13:21.

19:45 - Kanan (to Hera):  "We'll see each other again; I promise."  In The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan tells Anakin, "You will be a Jedi; I promise" [2:07:43], and in Revenge of the Sith, Padmé tells Anakin, "I'm not gonna die in childbirth, Ani; I promise you," and he replies, "No, I promise you" [53:46].  Later, Anakin also tells her, "Things will be different; I promise" [1:29:13].

21:03 - Ahsoka (to Ezra):  "In my experience, just when you think you understand the Force, you find out how little you actually know."  In A New Hope, Obi-Wan also uses this expression:  "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck" [1:02:17].

Rebels - S2E19 - "The Forgotten Droid"

5:24 - The symbol on the door inside the Imperial ship also appears in Echo Base in The Empire Strikes Back [33:36]:

5:54 - AP-5:  "It is against my programming protocol to allow this Imperial vessel or its cargo to be late for its scheduled deliveries."  C-3PO encounters a similar limit in Return of the Jedi, as he tells Han:  "It's against my programming to impersonate a deity" [1:11:37].

6:18 - Stormtrooper (to Imperial captain):  "Sir, we've begun a search.  If any rebels got on board, we'll find them."  In The Phantom Menace, a battle droid's comment has a similar construction; referring to the Jedi, it tells Nute Gunray and Rune Haako, "If they're down here, sir, we'll find them" [10:39].

8:12 - AP-5 (to Chopper):  "You can run, but there will be no escape."  Vader says nearly the same thing to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "There is no escape" [1:50:25].  Palpatine also tells Luke, "There is no escape" in Return of the Jedi [1:44:31].

11:36 - Imperial captain (after Chopper hits him):  "Ow!  What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant also exclaims, "What the?" as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15]; and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

12:05 - AP-5 (to Chopper after he attacks the captain):  "I can't believe what you just did."  Dr. Jones, Sr. also says this in The Last Crusade after Indy shoots down some Nazis:  "I can't believe what you did" [51:29].

16:30 - Ketsu (after Sabine thanks her):  "You owe me one."  Anakin also says this to Obi-Wan in Revenge of the Sith:  "Alright, but you owe me one, and not for saving your skin for the tenth time" [24:38].  In Return of the Jedi, Han also tells Luke, "I owe you one" [37:21].

16:47 - Screenshots don't do this justice, but this shot of The Ghost sliding to a stop as it approaches the camera is similar to one of the Separatist vessel doing the same near the beginning of Revenge of the Sith [23:23].

Tuesday, November 12, 2024

Rebels - S2E18 - "Shroud of Darkness"

2:04 - Kanan (to Ezra, as they're running to the edge of a cliff):  "I don't like this."  This is also Leia's reaction after the Millennium Falcon lands in Cloud City in The Empire Strikes Back [1:19:58].

5:14 - Ahsoka (talking about the Jedi):  "One by one, they were hunted down."
Ezra:  "By the Inquisitors."
Ahsoka:  "Or worse."

There are similarities here to two lines in A New Hope.  Obi-Wan tells Luke that Vader "helped the Empire hunt down and destroy the Jedi knights" [34:19].  A bit earlier, after C-3PO translates R2-D2's announcement of approaching creatures, Luke guesses that they're "Sandpeople.  Or worse." [28:35]

13:34 - Kanan (to Temple Guard):  "I learned enough."  Luke makes a similar comment in The Empire Strikes Back after Vader says that Obi-Wan never told him what happened to his father:  "He told me enough!" [1:51:02].

Tuesday, November 5, 2024

Rebels - S2E17 - "The Honorable Ones"

1:30 - Zeb:  "My gut tells me this is a trap."  Admiral Ackbar says, "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03], and Leia says it twice in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50].

2:27 - Ezra (as Chopper fights an-other droid):  "Come on, Chop; get him!"  In Attack of the Clones, Boba Fett similarly encourages Jango to shoot down Obi-Wan:  "Get him, dad; get him!" [1:08:17].

3:27 - The framing of the escape pod launch is basically the same as that in A New Hope, with the camera looking straight on [7:02]:
