The Clone Wars - S3E3 - "Supply Lines"

4:49 - Jar Jar:  "Meesa on a diplomatic mission."  The phrase "diplomatic mission" occurs a couple times in A New Hope.  Captain Antilles tells Vader that "We're on a diplomatic mission" [5.55], and later Leia tells him, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan" [7:58].

The Clone Wars - S3E2 - "ARC Troopers"

2:43 - Lama Su (after Obi-Wan explains that there may be a Separatist attack on Kamino):  "But the Republic blockade is far too strong.  They would not dare."  In The Phantom Menace, Sio Bibble says the same thing after Qui-Gon tells Amidala that the Trade Federation will kill her if she stays on Naboo:  "They wouldn't dare!" [23:36].

4:10 - General Grievous:  "Commence attack!"  Admiral Ackbar has a similar line in Return of the Jedi:  "Commence attack on the Death Star's main reactor!" [1:54:46]

7:49 - Screenshots don't really do this justice, so I won't include them, but this shot of Obi-Wan riding an aiwha and emerging from beneath the ocean is very similar to a shot of a Kaminoan doing the same thing in Attack of the Clones [50:18].

14:31 - Battle droid (knocking on a door):  "Open up!"  This is similar to a situation in A New Hope where a stormtrooper knocks on the door of the room where C-3PO and R2-D2 are hiding and says, "Open up in there!  Open up in there!" [1:17:57], just from the opposite perspective.

14:46 - General Grievous:  "All too easy."  Vader also says this during his lightsaber battle with Luke in The Empire Strikes Back [1:44:18].

The Clone Wars - S3E1 - "Clone Cadets"

3:00 - El-Les:  "CT-782 seems to follow his own path.  He can't do it all alone."  Leia uses this same phrase to describe Han in A New Hope:  "He's got to follow his own path; no one can choose it for him" [1:42:47].

5:05 - Bric:  "If you two would focus on fighting droids as much as you do fighting each other, you might stand a chance out there."  Perhaps coincidentally, this bears some similarity to Obi-Wan's comment to Anakin in Attack of the Clones:  "If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you do your wit, you would rival Master Yoda as a swordsman" [16:30].

8:29 - Commander Colt:  "Start the citadel challenge, version THX, variable 1138."  This is a nod to the title of an-other George Lucas movie, THX 1138.  The number 1138 occurs a number of times in Star Wars.

The Clone Wars - S2E22 - "Lethal Trackdown"

1:48 - Anakin stands at a window in the Jedi temple in the same pose that he stands in on Naboo in Attack of the Clones [59:17] and that Vader stands in on the bridge of his Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back [20:27]:

6:47 - Plo Koon (to Ahsoka):  "We must be cautious."  Obi-Wan also says this (to Luke) in A New Hope [42:44].

20:04 - This quick shot of Aurra Sing's boot adjusting a control on her speeder bike is similar to that of a scout trooper doing the same thing in Return of the Jedi [1:00:14], just horizontally flipped and at a slightly different angle:

The Clone Wars - S2E21 - "R2 Come Home"

11:31 - Anakin (to Mace Windu, about using the Force to move the wreckage they're trapped in):  "I already tried that."  In A New Hope, Luke says something similar to Han when he tries to shoot his way out of the trash compactor on the Death Star:  "Will you forget it!  I already tried it; it's magnetically sealed!" [1:19:29].

The Clone Wars - S2E20 - "Death Trap"

1:50 - Boba Fett (posing as a clone cadet, when asked what outfit he's from): "327nd."

2:28 - Jax:  "And with the training we got, I feel ready for anything."  In A New Hope, before entering the cantina, Luke tells Obi-Wan, "I'm ready for anything" [44:38].

3:49 - Unidentified clone cadet (about the prospect of serving alongside two Jedi Knights):  "That's wizard!"  Anakin's friend Kitster uses the same expression in The Phantom Menace:  "This is so wizard, Ani!" [54:25].

6:39 - Sgt. Crasher:  "Alright, alright, cut the chatter, men."   Red Leader uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "Cut the chatter, Red Two" [1:45:55].

9:13 - Sgt. Crasher (to Boba):  "Cadet 327, what reaction propels the main engines of this Jedi cruiser?"

14:23 - Wilhelm scream (clone trooper)

20:12 - Aurra Sing (urging Boba to jettison the escape pod of clone cadets):  "Do it!"  In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine says this to Anakin, telling him to kill Dooku [14:22].

The Clone Wars - S2E19 - "The Zillo Beast Strikes Back"

The title of this episode is a nod to that of The Empire Strikes Back.

14:47 - C-3PO:  "We're doomed."  He also says this twice in A New Hope [3:04, 16:02], once in The Empire Strikes Back [1:00:38], and once in Return of the Jedi [10:03].

15:32 - Palpatine:  "I've got a bad feeling about this."

16:31 - Anakin:  "Here's where the fun begins."  Han Solo says this in A New Hope [56:26], and Anakin has a similar line in Revenge of the Sith:  "This is where the fun begins" [3:48].

The Clone Wars - S2E18 - "The Zillo Beast"

1:46 - Chancellor Palpatine:  "This bomb is our only hope for victory now."  Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

8:47 - Mace Windu:  "I have a bad feeling about this."

9:42 - Wilhelm scream (clone trooper)

10:01 - Mace Windu (to clone troopers as Anakin distracts the Zillo Beast):  "Now's our chance; let's go!"  Han Solo has a similar line in A New Hope, when the lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi distracts the stormtroopers on the Death Star:  "Now's our chance; go!" [1:32:02].

The Clone Wars - S2E17 - "Bounty Hunters"

16:26 - Hondo:  "But you know what I always say:  speak softly and drive a big tank."  This seems to be patterned after Theodore Roosevelt's "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

18:37 - Hondo:  "Die, Jedi scum!"  C-3PO (with his head on the body of a battle droid) has a similar line in Attack of the Clones:  "Die, Jedi dogs!" [1:53:27].  Insults involving scum also appear in The Phantom Menace (before the podrace, Sebulba tells Anakin in Huttese, "You won't walk away from this one, you slave scum" [57:20]), Revenge of the Sith (General Grievous calls Anakin "Jedi scum" [19:12]), The Empire Strikes Back (Admiral Piett remarks, "Bounty hunters!?  We don't need their scum." [1:05:52]), and Return of the Jedi (an Imperial officer says, "You rebel scum" [1:33:51]).

The Clone Wars - S2E16 - "Cat and Mouse"

0:58 - Anakin:  "Master Kenobi better get here soon or this is gonna be one short rescue mission."  This bears some similarity to what Han Solo says in A New Hope (also referring to Obi-Wan):  "I hope that old man got that tractor beam out of commission or this is gonna be a real short trip" [1:32:55].

3:33 - Admiral Trench:  "I have won this round."  Perhaps coincidentally, Padmé uses this same phrase in The Phantom Menace, referring to the Trade Federation battle droids:  "They win this round" [1:58:17].

5:08 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin):  "I need you to run a mercy mission down to the planet's surface" and a bit later (5:26):  "I need you to continue the mercy mission."  Darth Vader also uses the phrase "mercy mission" in A New Hope when he says to Leia, "You weren't on any mercy mission this time" [7:47].

11:48 - Bail Organa:  "Help us, General Kenobi; you're our only hope."  Obviously, this echoes Leia's line "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" in A New Hope [35:35], but this whole episode is also an example of what she refers to at the beginning of her message:  "General Kenobi, years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars..." [35:05].

17:04 - Trench: "And your friends on the planet below shall perish as a result of your failure."  This has some resemblance to what Palpatine says to Luke in Return of the Jedi:  "And your friends on the Endor moon will not survive" [1:44:25].

18:18 - Anakin:  "Well, no ship this small usually has a cloaking device."  Captain Needa has a similar line, referring to the Millennium Falcon, in The Empire Strikes Back:  "No ship that small has a cloaking device" [1:07:49].

The Clone Wars - S2E15 - "Senate Murders"

0:37 - An-other reuse of a shot originally from "Rookies" (S1E5) that copies a shot near the end of Attack of the Clones [2:13:51]:

1:55 - Padmé:  "'Exciting' isn't exactly the word I would use."  C-3PO has a similar line in Return of the Jedi:  "'Exciting' is hardly the word I would choose" [51:29].

4:17 - Padmé:  "Committing more troops to the front lines will not allow diplomacy to resume."  Padmé uses a similar phrase in Revenge of the Sith when she says to Anakin, "Now you're closer to the Chancellor than anyone.  Please, ask him to stop the fighting and let diplomacy resume." [41:55].

9:19 - Senator Organa:  "We should double our efforts on the vote."  Moff Jerjerrod also uses this expression in Return of the Jedi:  "We shall double our efforts" [4:38].

15:39 - Senator Organa:  "If we hurry, we might still be able to catch Deechi before he leaves the Senate."  Perhaps coincidentally, this bears some resemblance to C-3PO's ruse in A New Hope where he tells some stormtroopers:  "They're mad men!  They're heading for the prison level; if you hurry, you might catch them!" [1:22:27].

The Clone Wars - S2E14 - "Duchess of Mandalore"

0:18 - Narrator:  "A diplomatic mission!"  Like I mentioned two episodes ago, the phrase "diplomatic mission" occurs a couple times in A New Hope.  Captain Antilles tells Vader that "We're on a diplomatic mission" [5.55], and later Leia tells him, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan" [7:58].

3:30 - Deputy Minister Jerec:  "The actions by our government have taken us into a period of civil war."  (He says this in both the falsified recording and the unaltered one at 18:16.)  The phrase "a period of civil war" also appears in the opening crawl of A New Hope:  "It is a period of civil war."

4:59 - Satine (to Palpatine):  "You will turn our planet into a military target, which will bring the war to us."  Tarkin also uses the phrase "a military target" in A New Hope when he's talking to Leia:  "You would prefer another target?  A military target?  Then name the system!" [58:12].
