The Clone Wars - S2E8 - "Brain Invaders"

5:12 - Barriss Offee:  "Master Windu has said we are keepers of the peace, not warriors."  Barriss refers to a meeting between Chancellor Palpatine and the Jedi (including herself) in Attack of the Clones where Mace Windu says, "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers" [4:49].

6:06 - Clone pilot (after other clones point blasters at him):  "What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant makes this same exclamation as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15]; and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

11:50 - Ahsoka: "I have a bad feeling about this, Master Fisto."

12:42 - Ahsoka (to Rex):  "Boy, am I glad to hear your voice."  Luke says something similar in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

14:06 - Anakin (to the clone troopers guarding Poggle the Lesser):  "Leave us."  Palpatine has similar lines twice in the movies:  "Leave us" to his entourage at the opera in Revenge of the Sith [43:44] and "Guards, leave us" to the Imperial guards in Return of the Jedi [1:30:55].

18:28 - Ahsoka directs the exhaust from a hose at Barriss, similar to what Luke does to Vader in The Empire Strikes Back [1:44:37].

---

There are brief cues of the Imperial March at 5:49 when Ahsoka talks about Anakin's future and at 14:02 when Anakin goes to interrogate Poggle.

The Clone Wars - S2E7 - "Legacy of Terror"

11:10 - Anakin (about the Geonosian mind control):  "That can't be true.  That's impossible."  Luke says something similar when Vader tells him about his father in The Empire Strikes Back:  "That's not true.  That's impossible." [1:51:21]

13:45 - Anakin:  "I've got a bad feeling about this."

The Clone Wars - S2E6 - "Weapons Factory"

5:01 - Luminara:  "It's decided then."  Mace Windu uses a similar expression in Revenge of the Sith:  "It's settled then; Yoda will take a battalion of clones to reinforce the Wookiees on Kashyyyk" [38:08].

7:24 - Tactical droid (to Geonosian):  "You may now commence attack."  Admiral Ackbar uses the same expression in Return of the Jedi:  "Commence attack on the Death Star's main reactor!" [1:54:46]

8:55 - Barriss (to Ahsoka):  "Trust me."  Han also says this (to Leia) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:20:06].

10:51 - Tactical droid (to Poggle the Lesser, about the supertanks):  "We have twenty units ready now and many more on the way."  In his conversation with Obi-Wan, Lama Su similarly appraises the clone army in Attack of the Clones:  "Two hundred thousand units are ready with a million more well on the way" [42:48].

11:46 - Rex (to the clone gunners):  "Steady, steady."  In The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar also says this to the Gungan soldiers [1:48:30].

12:31 - Tactical droid:  "Two Jedi in the control room?  That is impossible."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke also says, "That's impossible" [1:51:21].

14:21 - Luminara Unduli (to Anakin):  "I see what you have in mind."  It's probably just coincidence, but Han Solo has a similar line in A New Hope:  "Don't worry, Chewie; I think I know what he [Luke] has in mind" [1:12:12].  In The Empire Strikes Back, Leia also asks Han, ""What'd you have in mind for your next move?" [1:14:52].

16:36 - Luminara:  "My padawan will not fail."  Palpatine says almost the same thing in Attack of the Clones:  "My negotiations will not fail" [4:40].

18:18 - Anakin:  "Master Luminara, don't worry."  "Don't worry" also appears in Attack of the Clones (Anakin tells Padmé, "Don't worry; I've given up trying to argue with you" [1:36:02]), A New Hope (Obi-Wan tells R2-D2, "Oh, don't worry; he'll be alright," referring to Luke [30:17], and Han tells Leia, "Don't worry; she'll hold together," referring to the Millennium Falcon [1:34:57]), and in The Empire Strikes Back (Han tells Leia, "Don't worry" [1:20:04]).

The Clone Wars - S2E5 - "Landing at Point Rain"

5:08 - Ki-Adi Mundi:  "There is no such thing as luck."  In A New Hope, Obi-Wan says the same thing:  "In my experience, there's no such thing as luck" [1:02:17].

8:42 - Anakin (to Ahsoka):  "Hey, I'm worried about him too, but you have to keep your mind in the here and now; otherwise, we'll never be able to help Obi-Wan."  This echoes what Qui-Gon tells Obi-Wan at the beginning of The Phantom Menace:  "Keep your concentration here and now where it belongs" [3:16].

11:52 - Anakin:  "Hey, it's not my fault."  "It's not my fault" also appears three times in The Empire Strikes Back.  Han [1:07:00 and 1:07:02] and Lando [1:56:52] both say this when the Millennium Falcon's hyperdrive doesn't work.  Han also says, "It's not my fault" in Return of the Jedi as he's explaining to Jabba why he didn't pay him [20:26], and in A New Hope, C-3PO, speaking to Luke after R2 disappears, has a similar line:  "It wasn't my fault, sir" [26:21].

12:17 - Ki-Adi Mundi:  "All I can do is trust my instincts. "  This bears some resemblance to what Qui-Gon tells Anakin before the podrace in The Phantom Menace:  "Feel, don't think; use your instincts" [57:47].

13:07 - Anakin:  "Ahsoka and I will handle this."  This is similar to what Qui-Gon says (referring to himself and Obi-Wan) when Darth Maul appears in The Phantom Menace:  "We'll handle this" [1:50:29].  To a lesser degree, it's also similar to Obi-Wan's "Anakin and I can handle this" in Attack of the Clones [2:03:07].

Tuesday, November 30, 2021

The Clone Wars - S2E4 - "Senate Spy"

17:44 - C-3PO: "I'm afraid this situation is quite beyond my capacity."  He also uses the phrase "quite beyond my capacity" in A New Hope.  After convincing Luke and his uncle to buy R2-D2, he tells R2, "Now don't you forget this.  Why I should stick my neck out for you is quite beyond my capacity." [19:30]

Tuesday, November 23, 2021

The Clone Wars - S2E3 - "Children of the Force"

2:13 - Yularen (referring to hyperdrive rings):  "No, lock them all down!  Hurry!" echoes C-3PO's "No, shut them all down!  Hurry!" about the trash compactors on the Death Star in A New Hope [1:24:18].

17:22 - Mace Windu uses the Force to retrieve his lightsaber from the other side of a closing door, similar to Indiana Jones' retrieving his whip in Raiders of the Lost Ark [9:04].

Tuesday, November 16, 2021

The Clone Wars - S2E2 - "Cargo of Doom"

10:00 - In the dark, Captain Rex hits his head on a protruding pipe on the Separatist ship.  This seems to be a reference to Jango Fett's hitting his head on the door of Slave I in Attack of the Clones [1:03:23].

12:23 - Anakin:  "Ahsoka, wait; it's a trap!"  Admiral Ackbar says, "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03], and Leia says it twice in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50].

12:29 - Anakin (referring to Cad Bane):  "Ahsoka, wait; we'll take him together."  In Attack of the Clones, Obi-Wan says, "We'll take him together" to Anakin about Count Dooku [2:04:54].

Tuesday, November 9, 2021

The Clone Wars - S2E1 - "Holocron Heist"

0:18 - Narrator:  "Jedi trapped on Felucia!  Clones are surrounded by droid forces.  Their only hope is to escape on Republic gunships waiting to land on the embattled surface."  Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

Tuesday, November 2, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E22 - "Hostage Crisis"

3:23 - Anakin:  "When I finished constructing my lightsaber, Obi-Wan said to me, 'Anakin, this weapon is your life.'"  Obi-Wan tells him, "This weapon is your life" in Attack of the Clones too [21:59].

Tuesday, October 26, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E21 - "Liberty on Ryloth"

4:29 - Mace Windu:  "This plasma bridge is the only way in or out."  Perhaps coincidentally, this bears some resemblance to C-3PO's comment about the Death Star's cell bay in A New Hope:  "The main entrance seems to be the only way in or out" [1:17.52].

---

Among the Twi'lek treasure seen at 12:36 and 19:15, there's an object that resembles the Ark of the Covenant as seen in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Tuesday, October 19, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E20 - "Innocents of Ryloth"

13:59 - Tactical droid (referring to the Republic troops):  "They are on the move."  Probably just coincidentally, Obi-Wan uses this same phrase in A New Hope to describe the sand people:  "They're on the move" [32:29].

Tuesday, October 12, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E19 - "Storm over Ryloth"

0:32 - This shot, which is re-used from the beginning of "Rookies," copies a shot from the end of Attack of the Clones [2:13:51].

6:14 - A vulture droid crashes into the bridge of the Jedi cruiser in the same way that an A-wing crashes into the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer in Return of the Jedi [1:59:05], although without such disastrous results.

There's a similar shot in "Jedi Crash" [0:21], so similar in fact, that it seems that Anakin and Yularen were simply taken out of this shot from "Storm over Ryloth," and it was used in "Jedi Crash" first.

20:19 - This shot of Anakin's escape pod visually parallels a shot of R2-D2 and C-3PO's escape pod in A New Hope [7:22]:

Tuesday, October 5, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E18 - "Mystery of a Thousand Moons"

5:36 - Anakin:  "Obi-Wan and I can handle it."  This has some similarity to Obi-Wan's "Anakin and I can handle this" in Attack of the Clones [2:03:07].

12:34 - Obi-Wan:  "Those are the roots we're looking for."  He uses the same expression in Attack of the Clones ("I have a strong feeling that this bounty hunter is the assassin we're looking for" [57:35] and in A New Hope ("These aren't the droids you're looking for" [43:40]).

12:45 - Obi-Wan:  "I have a bad feeling about this."

Tuesday, September 28, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E17 - "Blue Shadow Virus"

1:53 - C-3PO (as a tactical droid's head is being cut open):  "I'm getting a bad feeling about this."

Tuesday, September 21, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E16 - "The Hidden Enemy"

7:48 - Anakin:  "This is a trap!"  He says this as he knowingly goes into it, so the situation is a bit different, but this does recall Ackbar's famous "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03] and Leia's in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50].

Tuesday, September 14, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E15 - "Trespass"

1:37 - Obi-Wan (to Chairman Cho):  "With all due respect Chairman, this is for the senate to decide, not us."  In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's pilot uses the same expression ("With all due respect, the ambassadors for the Supreme Chancellor wish to board immediately" [2:06]), and Obi-Wan uses it in Revenge of the Sith while speaking to Mace Windu about Anakin ("With all due respect, Master, is he not the chosen one?" [40:32]).

4:04 - Anakin (to Obi-Wan):  "Sensors are in place."  Han Solo says something similar in The Empire Strikes Back:  "Sensors are placed" [3:45].

4:08 - Obi-Wan (when the hologram project doesn't work):  "Blast it!"  He also says "Blast!" when Jango Fett ambushes him in Attack of the Clones ("Blast!  This is why I hate flying!" [1:08:22]), and Luke says it twice in A New Hope:  after R2-D2 disappears ("Blast it!" [26:49]) and when a TIE fighter is behind him during the Battle of Yavin ("Blast it, Biggs, where are you?" [1:49:09]).

4:10 - Anakins hits a hologram projector in order to get it working again, just like Han Solo does with the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back [35:07].

4:12 - Battle droid (in a hologram recording):  "685 to command.  There're too many of them."  Captain Panaka says something similar in The Phantom Menace (referring to battle droids):  "There are too many of them" [23:25], as does a Jedi youngling in Revenge of the Sith (referring to the clones executing Order 66 at the Jedi temple):  "Master Skywalker, there are too many of them" [1:23:40], and a rebel pilot says basically the same thing in Return of the Jedi (referring to TIE fighters):  "There's too many of them" [1:35:13].

6:36 - Two Talz cross their spears in front of Anakin and Obi-Wan, just as two Gamorrean guards do in front of Luke in Return of the Jedi [22:33]:

6:53 - Obi-Wan (after Anakin asks how he's going to communicate with the Talz):  "Patience.  Maybe they're smarter than we are."  It's unclear whether "Patience" is his answer to Anakin's question or merely his advice, but in The Empire Strikes Back, Yoda and Obi-Wan also counsel Luke with, "Patience!" [Yoda at 54:36 and 55:03; Obi-Wan at 1:24:18], and in Return of the Jedi, the Emperor advises Vader:  "Patience, my friend" [38:57].  It's also part of Obi-Wan's advice to Anakin in Attack of the Clones:  "Patience.  Use the Force.  Think." [21:49].  Also in Attack of the Clones, Dooku, referring to Padmé, tells Gunray, "Patience, Viceroy, patience; she will die" [1:49:27].

8:16 - Anakin (after Rex comments about the weather):  "You don't know the half of it."  He also uses this expression while talking to Kitster in The Phantom Menace:  "That isn't the half of it" [47:59] and then goes on to explain that he's going to be in the podrace.

11:51 - Chairman Cho (after Senator Chuchi offers to represent Pantora):  "Not on your life, Senator.  There will be no diplomacy this time."  There are similarities here to two lines in A New Hope.  After a rebel technician offers Luke a new droid to replace R2, he replies, "Not on your life" [1:43:43], and after Vader gives order to retrieve the escape pod, he says, "There'll be no one to stop us this time" [8:44].

13:59 - Rex (after Chairman Cho orders him to fire on the Talz):  "Sir, with all due respect, we're only here to protect you."  See above, 1:37.

14:11 - Chairman Cho:  "It's a trap!"  Admiral Ackbar is famous for saying this in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03], but Leia says this to Luke (twice!) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50].

19:03 - Obi-Wan (urging Senator Chuchi to negotiate with the Talz):  "Senator, now is the time."  The situation is quite different, but while speaking to Tion Medon in Revenge of the Sith, he says something similar:  "If you have warriors, now is the time" [55:19].

21:14 - Anakin (to Senator Chuchi):  "Yes, most impressive."  Vader gives a similar compliment to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "Impressive, most impressive" [1:44:30].

21:38 - Senator Chuchi (after Obi-Wan tells her to make the peace last and set an example):  "I will, I promise you."  In The Phantom Menace, Obi-Wan tells Anakin, "You will be a Jedi, I promise" [2:07:43], and in Revenge of the Sith, Padmé tells Anakin, "I'm not gonna die in childbirth, Ani, I promise you," and he replies, "No, I promise you" [53:46].
---

The clone troopers' cold weather gear is based on a Ralph McQuarrie concept painting of snowtroopers for The Empire Strikes Back.  Captain Rex's helmet even includes the same symbol on the side:

The Clone Wars - S1E14 - "Defenders of Peace"

[I don't have anything to say about this episode yet, but I didn't want to skip over it.  This post is acting as a place holder, and I'll update it in the future if I find something to note.]

Tuesday, August 31, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E13 - "Jedi Crash"

0:21 - To some degree, this shot of a Vulture droid crashing into the bridge of a Jedi cruiser visually parallels an A-wing crashing into the bridge of the Super Star Destroyer The Executor in Return of the Jedi [1:59:05].

6:51 - Anakin's life support system makes the same breathing sound that his Darth Vader mask later will.

Tuesday, August 24, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E12 - "The Gungan General"

8:55 - Senator Kharrus's staff (first seen at 3:43) resembles the Staff of Ra from Raiders of the Lost Ark:

[source]

This is even the subject of the episode featurette on the Star Wars website:

Tuesday, August 17, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E11 - "Dooku Captured"

1:16 - Obi-Wan (after opening the cell door of some prisoners on Dooku's ship):  "Don't bother to get up; you're not the prisoner I'm looking for."  This seems to be a reference to Obi-Wan's line "These aren't the droids you're looking for" in A New Hope [43:39].

Tuesday, August 10, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E10 - "Lair of Grievous"

0:27 - Narrator:  "With the help of Count Dooku's sinister agents, the villainous Viceroy has made a daring getaway."  "Sinister agents" is a phrase from the opening crawl of A New Hope:  "Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...."

4:38 - Battle droid (referring to the Jedi):  "Don't even think about it, Republic dogs!"  In Attack of the Clones, C-3PO (with his head attached to a battle droid's body), uses a similar expression:  "Die, Jedi dogs!"  [1:53:27]

9:20 - Nahdar (to Grievous): "Don't make me destroy you."  Vader also says this (to Luke) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:50:27].

10:41 - A-4D (Grievous' doctor):  "You're a walking scrap pile."  This is something of an exaggerated assessment of Grievous' condition, so the situation isn't the same, but in A New Hope, C-3PO insultingly calls R2-D2 a "nearsighted scrap pile" [9:56].

13:09 - Nahdar: "I have a bad feeling about this."

Tuesday, August 3, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E9 - "Cloak of Darkness"

8:23 - Clone trooper (to a droid):  "You keep watch here, 327."  And after the droid protests:  "OK, OK, 327-T."

Tuesday, July 27, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E8 - "Bombad Jedi"

9:43 - C-3PO - "I have a very bad feeling about this."

15:08 - Senator Farr:  "He is our only hope."  Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

18:40 - C-3PO:  "I am a protocol droid on a diplomatic-."  3PO is interrupted by Nute Gunray, but it seems that he was about to say "on a diplomatic mission."  This phrase appears at least twice in A New Hope:  Captain Antilles tells Vader that "We're on a diplomatic mission" [5.55], and later Leia tells him, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan" [7:58].  Near the beginning of her conversation with Vader, Leia is similarly interrupted when she says, "When they hear you've attacked a diplomatic-" [7:43].

Tuesday, July 20, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E7 - "Duel of the Droids"

8:52 - General Grievous:  "I will deal with the Jedi myself."  Grievous uses "Jedi" generically here (he doesn't yet know what specific Jedi have invaded his station), but in Revenge of the Sith, he says, "I will deal with this Jedi slime myself," referring to Obi-Wan Kenobi.  He also has a similar line in "Destroy Malevolence," again referring to Kenobi.  In Return of the Jedi, Vader says, "I will deal with them myself," referring to the Rebel strike force [56:10].

16:19 - Captain Rex:  "I've got a bad feeling about this, sir."

Tuesday, July 6, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E5 - "Rookies"

0:31 - This shot of the clone army copies a shot at the end of Attack of the Clones [2:13:51]:

4:24 - Clone sergeant: "CT-327, report in. Sentry, do you copy?" Along with an occurrence of 327, there's a resemblance between these lines and what an Imperial officer says in A New Hope: "TK-421, why aren't you at your post? TK-421, do you copy?" [1:08:18]

8:50 - Commander Cody: "I have a bad feeling about this."

Tuesday, June 29, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E4 - "Destroy Malevolence"

3:44 - Obi-Wan:  "What in blazes are they [Padmé and C-3PO] doing out here?" echoes Obi-Wan's earlier "What in the blazes is he [Anakin] doing there [on Tatooine]?" in Attack of the Clones [1:22:27].

5:42 - C-3PO:  "Oh, we're doomed."  He also says "We're doomed" twice in A New Hope [3:04, 16:02], once in The Empire Strikes Back [1:00:38], and once in Return of the Jedi [10:03].

5:47 - Anakin:  "Somebody has to save her [Padmé's] skin."  Leia has a similar line in A New Hope: "Somebody has to save our skins" [1:18:22], and Anakin uses the same expression in Revenge of the Sith when he says to Obi-Wan, "Alright, but you owe me one, and not for saving your skin for the tenth time" [24:38].

5:52 - Plo Koon: "There he [Anakin] goes again, craving adventure and excitement."  This borrows some words from what Yoda says to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "Adventure.  Heh!  Excitement.  Heh!  A Jedi craves not these things" [56:49].

6:14 - Computer voice: "Welcome to rail jet sub-station nine four."  This is a reference to Docking Bay 94 from A New Hope, first mentioned by Han Solo at 49:18.

9:40 - Obi-Wan:  "Spinning is not flying."
Anakin:  "But it's a good trick."

This is a reference to Anakin's "I'll try spinning; that's a good trick" in The Phantom Menace [1:54:22].

14:25 - General Grievous jumps down behind Obi-Wan Kenobi and says, "Hello, there," the opposite of the situation in Revenge of the Sith [57:27].

15:23 - Grievous:  "I will deal with this Jedi myself."  He says almost the exact same thing in Revenge of the Sith:  "I will deal with this Jedi slime myself" [58:03].  Both times, he's referring to Kenobi.  In Return of the Jedi, Vader says, "I will deal with them myself," referring to the Rebel strike force [56:10].

16:15 -  C-3PO:  "Don't shoot!"  He also says this, also with arms raised, in A New Hope [16:27].

17:49 - Obi-Wan Kenobi uses a crane to swing himself behind Grievous on the train, similar to what Indiana Jones does at the beginning of Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade [7:52].

Tuesday, June 22, 2021

The Clone Wars - S1E3 - "Shadow of Malevolence"

6:46 - Nala Se: "It is our only hope." Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

7:41 - Anakin: "Cut the chatter, Ahsoka." Red Leader has a similar line in A New Hope: "Cut the chatter, Red Two" [1:45:55].

15:31, 19:30 - As in the previous episode, the Malevolence's ion cannon firing parallels the Death Star's firing in A New Hope, but in the first of these two occurrences, the button-pushing sequence [58:53, 1:56:25] is also included:

17:27 - Plo Koon: "Stay on course" echoes a Gold Squadron pilot's repeated "Stay on target" from the Death Star attack in A New Hope [1:50:43]. 17:30 - Anakin: "All deflectors, double front" echoes Red Leader's "Switch your deflectors on, double front" from the Death Star attack in A New Hope [1:45:47]. 17:55 - Battle droid: "I have a bad feeling about this."

17:58 - Anakin: "Watch those towers, boys." There's also some talk about towers in the attack on the Death Star in A New Hope. At 1:53:48, Wedge says, "My scope shows the tower, but I can't see the exhaust port. Are you sure the computer can hit it?" and then, "What about that tower?" to which Luke replies, "You worry about those fighters; I'll worry about the tower." 18:05 - Clone pilot: "Loosen up" quotes a Gold Squadron pilot [1:50:48] from A New Hope. 21:21 - Plo Koon: "From a certain point of view" quotes Obi-Wan in Return of the Jedi [46:23].

The featurette on the DVD explains that the Y-Wings in this episode (especially their bubble-shaped turrets) were based in part on the Ralph McQuarrie concept art for A New Hope.

The Clone Wars - S1E2 - "Rising Malevolence"

2:38 - Count Dooku: "You may fire when ready."  Twice, Tarkin says the same thing in A New Hope [58:37, 1:56:20].

2:53 & 21:15 - The shot of the Malevolence's ion cannon firing, with droids shielding their eyes, parallels the Death Star's cannon firing in A New Hope [59:02]:

8:59 - Sinker (trying to restore power to the escape pod):  "No, that's not it.  This one goes there; that one goes there."  Han Solo also says, "This one goes there; that one goes there" to Chewbacca while they're fixing the Millennium Falcon in The Empire Strikes Back [29:42].

10:04 - Plo Koon: "Pod 1977, do you copy?" references 1977, the year A New Hope was released.  There's also a resemblance between this and the Imperial officer's "TK-421, do you copy?" in A New Hope [1:08:21], especially since the numbers are pronounced as individual digits ("one nine seven seven" and "four two one"), although that may be coincidental.

20:54 - Ahsoka:  "You forgot; we turned him off" bears some similarity to C-3PO's "'Use the comlink?'  Oh my, I forgot; I turned it off" in A New Hope [1.23.53].

The Clone Wars - S1E1 - "Ambush"

9:37 - Rys: "Where's the General [Yoda]?
Jek:  "I don't know, we got separated."

Luke also says "We got separated" (referring to himself and Leia) in Return of the Jedi [1:02:20].

11:00 - Super Battle Droid:  "Die, Republic dogs!"  When C-3PO's head is on a battle droid's body in Attack of the Clones, he has a similar line:  "Die, Jedi dogs!" [1:53:27]

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

35:25 -  Ahsoka:  "So, this is where the fun begins."  Anakin also says "This is where the fun begins" at the beginning of Revenge of the Sith [3:47], and Han Solo has a similar line in A New Hope:  "Here's where the fun begins" [56:26].

46:02 - It appears earlier, but this is probably the clearest shot of an archway in the monastery:

This is clearly based on a Ralph McQuarrie concept painting from Return of the Jedi of the exterior of Jabba's Palace:

46:40 - Wilhelm scream (clone trooper)

1:03:59 - Anakin:  "Looks like we're gonna have to take this bucket of bolts all the way to Tatooine" references Leia's "This bucket of bolts is never gonna get us past that blockade" in The Empire Strikes Back [35:09].

1:07:19 - Obi-Wan:  "If anyone can fly a bucket of bolts through hyperspace, he [Anakin] can" - same as above.

1:10:54 - Anakin:  "Hang on back there."  Anakin seems to direct this to Ahsoka, but Luke says this to R2-D2 in A New Hope [1:48:52].

1:16:55 - Ziro to an assassin droid:  "What is it, Kronos-327?"  327 is a number that frequently appears in Star Wars.

1:27:58 - Ziro to Padmé:  "I believe you are too dangerous to be kept alive."  In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine says that Dooku "was too dangerous to be kept alive" [14:38].  Later in the same movie, Mace Windu has a similar line about Palpatine:  "He's too dangerous to be left alive" [1:14:23].

1:28:05 - Ziro:  "I have powerful friends in the senate" echoes what Leia says to Jabba in Return of the Jedi:  "We have powerful friends" [21:02].

Introduction

One of the things I've enjoyed about watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels is how they incorporate and reference elements from the original movies, primarily in bits of dialogue or shot composition.  The main purpose of this blog is simply to note these, pedantic and obsessive though it may be.  I have many half-written notes languishing in Google Documents, and I felt that doing this project publicly would help to keep me accountable.

To begin with, I'm going to re-watch both series and write about what I've previously noticed and any new things I see.  I'm undecided about what to do with some seasons, however.  I'd like to include frames from the shows in order to illustrate what I'm writing about, but I'm unable to do this reliably for the seventh season of The Clone Wars (because screen clippings I try to take of Disney+ end up as black rectangles) and for the third and fourth seasons of Rebels (because I have those seasons on Bluray and can't play them on my computer).  It's possible that I'll be able to find what I need in clips or images from the Star Wars website or YouTube channel, but I guess I'll see what happens.

I'm sure that I'll miss some references and similarities, but this blog is meant more as an on-going project than a one-time catalogue.

Eventually (probably after I've gone through everything the first time), I'll delve a little deeper than just these references and write some posts with more substance.  There are a handful of episodes I've already written about on an-other blog, and I'll put those posts here too.
