The Clone Wars - S4E16 - "Friends and Enemies"

3:25 - Cad Bane looks at a hat like Indiana Jones':

[source]

7:44 - Some of the panels in the background have the same hexagon pattern that's also seen in the homestead garage in Attack of the Clones and A New Hope:

9:02 - Obi-Wan (as Hardeen) reaches up to his bound feet to use the Force to release them.  There's a similar shot in The Empire Strikes Back where Luke reaches up in a vain attempt to free his own bound feet [9:01]:

12:49 - Cad Bane (about Hardeen's suggestion to split Eval's reward fifty-fifty):  "Over my dead corpse."
Hardeen:  "Don't tempt me."

There's a similar exchange in A New Hope.  After Greedo tells Han Solo that Jabba may take his (Han's) ship, Han says, "Over my dead body" to which Greedo replies, "That's the idea" [50:42].

16:31 - Moralo Eval:  "Who sells a ship with only enough fuel to get to this lousy rock?"  In A New Hope, Luke also disdainfully calls a planet a rock; after C-3PO asks if there's anything he can do to help, he replies, "Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock" [19:58].

19:47 - Anakin:  "You're going to pay for what you did."
Hardeen:  "You shouldn't have gotten involved."

There are two similarities here.  In Attack of the Clones, Anakin says almost the same thing:  "You're gonna pay for all the Jedi that you killed today, Dooku" [2:04:51], and in A New Hope, Obi-Wan uses the same expression when he tells Luke, "He [Luke's uncle] didn't hold with your father's ideals, thought he should have stayed here and not gotten involved" [32:42].

---

Moralo Eval's armor is similar to that of General Veers, Dengar, and the snowtroopers:

The helmet that Hardeen wears is based on a piece of Ralph McQuarrie concept art for Boba Fett:

It's even mentioned specifically in this video:

The Clone Wars - S4E15 - "Deception"

3:13 - This shot of Ahsoka and Plo Koon at Obi-Wan's fake funeral is somewhat similar to a shot of Anakin and Obi-Wan at Qui-Gon's funeral in The Phantom Menace [2:07:35]:

7:27 - Rako Hardeen (as he sees Obi-Wan disguised as him):  "What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant makes this same exclamation as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han Solo says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15], and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

---

According to the trivia in the episode guide on the Star Wars website (my source for both of these images), Hardeen's helmet is based on a rebel trooper concept from Return of the Jedi.

The Clone Wars - S4E14 - "A Friend in Need"

19:53 - Ahsoka (to R2-D2):  "That's two I owe ya."  Han Solo has a similar line in The Empire Strikes Back (speaking to Luke):  "That's two you owe me, junior" [17:00].

The Clone Wars - S4E13 - "Escape from Kadavo"

13:35 - Zygerrian slaver:  "Keeper, a fleet of warships has dropped out of hyperspace in sector six."  One of the rebels says something similar in The Empire Strikes Back:  "General, there's a fleet of Star Destroyers coming out of hyperspace in sector four" [22:31].

13:46 - Plo Koon:  "Wolf leader to Wolf pack, accelerate to attack speed."  Red Leader also says, "Accelerate to attack speed" in A New Hope [1:45:56], and Lando says it in Return of the Jedi [1:35:19].

14:22 - Ahsoka:  "We'll need a bigger ship."  In Jaws, Chief Brody says something similar to Quint:  "You're gonna need a bigger boat" [1:21:24].

15:20:  Warthog (after Plo Koon shoots down two Zygerrians):  "Yeah!  That got 'em!"  Wedge has a similar exclamation in The Empire Strikes Back after one of the AT-ATs is blown up:  "Wooah!  That got him!" [29:24].

15:25 - Plo Koon:  "Watch out for those towers."  There's also some talk about towers in the attack on the Death Star in A New Hope. At 1:53:48, Wedge says, "My scope shows the tower, but I can't see the exhaust port. Are you sure the computer can hit it?" and then, "What about that tower?" to which Luke replies, "You worry about those fighters; I'll worry about the tower."

16:49 - Anakin:  "We are running out of time."  Qui-Gon also says this in The Phantom Menace:  "Either way, we're running out of time" [40:07].

17:55 - Anakin (after destroying the towers with gun emplacements):  "You're all clear, Master Plo."  Han Solo uses this same expression near the end of A New Hope:  "You're all clear, kid.  Now let's blow this thing and go home." [1:56:54]

The Clone Wars - S4E12 - "Slaves of the Republic"

0:38 -  This shot where the camera keeps pace with the Tecora as it passes other ships is similar to a shot of the Millennium Falcon in Return of the Jedi [1:26:55].

13:59 - Anakin salutes as a signal for R2 to launch his lightsaber to him, just like Luke does in Return of the Jedi [32:32].

Tuesday, November 22, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E11 - "Kidnapped"

6:10 - There's a musical cue of the Imperial March as Anakin expresses his dislike of Zygerrian slave traders.

11:48 - Anakin (after Ahsoka asks how he knew that slicing a bomb with his lightsaber would disarm it):  "I trusted my instincts."  This is similar to what Qui-Gon tells him in The Phantom Menace:  "Feel, don't think; use your instincts" [57:47].

20:39:  Darts D'Nar:  "The Jedi will not stop us this time."  Vader uses the same expression in A New Hope:  "There'll be no one to stop us this time" [8:44].

21:05 - Ahsoka (after Yularen explains that the colonists on Kiros have vanished):  "Vanished?  That's impossible."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke also says, "That's impossible" [1:51:21].

---

Some of the control panels in the Tecora have the same hexagonal pattern seen in the homestead garage in Attack of the Clones and A New Hope:

The Clone Wars - S4E10 - "Carnage of Krell"

11:25 - Krell:  "It's treason, then."  Palpatine also says this in Revenge of the Sith [1:11:22].

Tuesday, November 8, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E9 - "Plan of Dissent"

4:05 - Jesse:  "The capital is too well armed."  During the conference on the Death Star in A New Hope, General Tagge* has a similar line:  "The Rebel Alliance is too well equipped" [37:02].

8:49 - Clone Trooper (to General Krell):  "Sir, there appears to be a disturbance in hangar nine four."  This seems to be a reference to the number of the Millennium Falcon's docking bay in A New Hope, although Han Solo and Obi-Wan Kenobi both pronounce it as one number ("ninety-four") [49:19].

8:54 - Krell:  "Trooper, what's going on down there?  Trooper?  Report, trooper."
Fives:  "Uh, yes, sir, everything's fine in the hangar, sir.  Nothing's out of control down here."
Krell:  "Then why have the alarms been triggered?"
Fives:  "Ah, uh, uh, uh, it's just a drill, uh, safety drill, sir."
Krell:  "Safety check occurs at 0600.  Who authorized this drill?"
Fives:  "Uh, we are decrypting the alien hardware, sir, standard operating procedure."
Krell:  "Who is this?  What's your CT number?  Trooper, identify yourself."

Elements of this (particularly Krell's last line) are reminiscent of the conversion that Han Solo has with an Imperial officer in A New Hope [1:15:17].

Han:  "Uh, everything's under control.  Situation normal."
Officer:  "What happened?"
Han:  "Uh, had a slight weapons malfunction, but, uh, everything's perfectly alright now.  We're fine.  We're all fine here now.  Thank you.  How are you?"
Officer:  "We're sending a squad up."
Han:  "Uh, uh, negative, negative.   We have, uh, a reactor leak here, uh, now.  Give us a few minutes to lock it down.  Uh, large leak, very dangerous."
Officer:  "Who is this?  What's your operating number?"

11:50 - Fives:  "General Skywalker blew up a droid control ship when he was just a kid, and he told me the trick is hitting their main reactor from the inside."  This may be an obvious reference, but I'll note it anyway:  Anakin's blowing up the droid control ship occurs near the end of The Phantom Menace. [2:02:32].

14:58 - Fives (upon seeing the space battle):  "Whoa!  What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant makes this same exclamation as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han Solo says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15], and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

---
*It's spelt "Tagge" on the Star Wars website, but in the credits, it's "Taggi."

The Clone Wars - S4E8 - "The General"

6:17 - Hard Case (after the ground shakes):  "What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant makes this same exclamation as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han Solo says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15], and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

6:33 - Fives (to Hard Case, referring to the Umbaran tank):  "Blast it!"  Probably just coincidentally, Luke also yells this to Han in A New Hope (referring to the dianoga in the trash compactor):  "Blast it, will you!?" [1:20:38].  He also uses this expression simply to express frustration:  "Blast it!" after R2-D2 disappears [26:49] and "Blast it, Biggs, where are you?" when a TIE fighter is behind him during the Battle of Yavin [1:49:09].  This is also how Obi-Wan uses it in Attack of the Clones, when Jango Fett ambushes him:  "Blast!  This is why I hate flying!" [1:08:22].

8:26 - Fives:  "We're safe for the moment."  This line is similar to some dialogue in A New Hope.  Luke asks C-3PO, "Are you safe?" and he replies, "For the moment" [1:26:02].

15:58 - Hard Case:  "I prefer a good fight to all this sneakin' around."  Han Solo says almost the same thing in A New Hope:  "I prefer a straight fight to all this sneakin' around" [1:09:01].

20:22 - General Krell (after the clones have defeated the Umbaran tanks):  "Impressive."  Vader gives a similar compliment to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "Impressive, most impressive" [1:44:30].

21:28 - Rex:  "A lot of men died to take this base."  Perhaps coincidentally, this is very similar to Mon Mothma's line "Many Bothans died to bring us this information" in Return of the Jedi [49:36].

The Clone Wars - S4E7 - "Darkness on Umbara"

0:19 - Narrator:  "As the Separatists tighten their grip over vital but isolated supply routes, the Republic launches a lightning strike into a remote, ghost nebula to control the strategic system of Umbara."  Leia uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers" [57:44].

1:09 - Fives:  "Just like old times, Rex."  Biggs says almost the same thing in A New Hope:  "It'll be like old times, Luke" [1:43:34].

---

Throughout this episode arc, Umbara is described as dark and shadowy.  The name Umbara seems to be derived from the Latin word umbra, which means shadow.

The Clone Wars - S4E6 - "Nomad Droids"

The fortune cookie is "Who's the more foolish, the fool or the fool who follows him?" which Obi-Wan says in A New Hope [1:07:29].

1:31 and 4:31 - C-3PO (to R2):  "Did you hear that?"  He also asks him this in A New Hope [2:47].  The first instance in this episode occurs while they're going down the hallway and the ship is under attack, and these circumstances also mirror those in A New Hope.

2:55 - C-3PO:  "R2, do something!  Get us out of here!"  Han Solo also says this to Chewbacca in A New Hope:  "Chewie, get us outta here!" [55:26].

6:25 - The Big Hay-Zu:  "So, you are the intruders."
C-3PO:  "Intruders, oh, hardly, your worshipfulness."

Han calls Leia "worshipfulness" in A New Hope ("Look, your worshipfulness, let's get one thing straight:  I take orders from just one person:  me!" [1:26:04]), and C-3PO calls Jabba "worshipfulness" in Return of the Jedi ("I am here, your worshipfulness" [15:02]).

9:36 - C-3PO (in response to R2's beeps):  "I heartily agree."  He uses the same expression in A New Hope after Luke suggests he wait outside by the speeder and says they want to avoid trouble in the cantina:  "I heartily agree with you, sir" [45:45].

15:43 - C-3PO:  "It's all your fault, R2, all your fault."  He places the blame on R2 twice in A New Hope too:  "I don't know what all this trouble is about, but I'm sure it must be your fault" [52:03] and "This is all your fault" [1:36:11] (when 3PO is tangled in wires in the Millennium Falcon).  He also blames himself when he thinks that Luke, Leia, Han, and Chewbacca are dying in the trash compactor:  "It's all my fault!" [1:24:42].

18:18 - C-3PO:  "Goodness gracious me!"  He also uses this expression in Return of the Jedi, at the door of Jabba's palace [5:52].

---

The pit droids' deception of projecting a hologram image of a leader amid smoke and lightning is similar to what the wizard does in The Wizard of Oz.

The Clone Wars - S4E5 - "Mercy Mission"

The title comes from A New Hope, where Darth Vader says to Leia, "You weren't on any mercy mission this time" [7:47].

6:50 - Sinker:  "Comin' here was a bad idea."
Boost:  "I'm beginnin' to agree with ya."

In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke has the same response to R2's beeps:  "If you're sayin' comin' here was a bad idea, I'm beginnin' to agree with ya" [43:55].

8:38 - C-3PO:  "Impossible clones!"  He similarly describes Han Solo in The Empire Strikes Back:  "Impossible man" [7:40].

10:00 - C-3PO:  "I have a bad feeling about this."

10:21 - C-3PO - "I suppose that could have been worse" and after rubble traps him and R2, "Now it is."  In A New Hope, there's a similar exchange in the trash compactor.  Leia says to Han, "It could be worse," and after an unsettling noise, he replies, "It's worse" [1:19:41].

12:04 - C-3PO (to R2 as bugs fly around him):  "Did you see that?"  Perhaps coincidentally, he asks a similar question (also to R2) at the beginning of A New Hope:  "Did you hear that?" [2:47].

12:39 - C-3PO (in response to a tree saying he does not belong):  "I heartily agree; being here is a terrible mistake."  He uses the same expression in A New Hope after Luke suggests he wait outside by the speeder and says they want to avoid trouble in the cantina:  "I heartily agree with you, sir" [45:45].

17:01 - C-3PO:  "R2, we're doomed."  He also says "We're doomed" twice (both times to R2) in A New Hope [3:04, 16:02], once (to Han, Leia, and Chewbacca) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:00:38], and once (to R2) in Return of the Jedi [10:03].

17:47 - C-3PO:  "Riddles are my specialty."  He pronounces "specialty" with five syllables, just like Obi-Wan does in Revenge of the Sith when he tells Palpatine, "Sith Lords are our specialty" [12:14].

Tuesday, October 4, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E4 - "Shadow Warrior"

3:05 - Padmé (to Boss Lyonie):  "With all due respect, your course of action is based on lies."  In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan's pilot also says, "With all due respect" ("With all due respect, the ambassadors for the Supreme Chancellor wish to board immediately" [2:06]), and Obi-Wan uses it in Revenge of the Sith while speaking to Mace Windu about Anakin ("With all due respect, Master, is he not the chosen one?" [40:32]).  As Queen Amidala, Padmé also uses the phrase "course of action" in The Phantom Menace:  "I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war" [9:51].

Tuesday, September 27, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E3 - "Prisoners"

0:36 - Narrator:  "Count Dooku commands his sinister agent Riff Tamson to use any means necessary to bring Prince Lee-Char out of hiding for he knows that hope does remain as long as the prince is alive."  The phrase "sinister agent" also appears (as a plural) in the opening crawl of A New Hope:  "Pursued by the Empire's sinister agents, Princess Leia races home aboard her starship, custodian of the stolen plans that can save her people and restore freedom to the galaxy...."

1:58 - Kit Fisto:  "Ah, eels, very dangerous."  This is based on Sallah's "Asps.  Very dangerous." in Raiders of the Lost Ark [1:00:50].

4:20 - Riff Tamson:  "The Jedi's resistance to pain is impressive."  This is somewhat similar to Vader's line about Leia in A New Hope:  "Her resistance to the mind probe is considerable" [51:15].

6:47 - Ahsoka:  "Monnk, am I glad to see you!"  Luke uses this same greeting in A New Hope:  "Ben Kenobi?  Boy, am I glad to see you!" [30:35]

7:21 - Tamson:  "I grow of waiting, Jedi.  Where is the prince?"  Tarkin has a similar line in A New Hope:  "I grow tired of asking this, so it'll be the last time:  where is the Rebel base?" [58:18].

9:30 - Lee-Char:  "But it's time for me to lead, and this, I feel, is my only course of action."  Queen Amidala also uses the phrase "course of action" in The Phantom Menace:  "I will not condone a course of action that will lead us to war" [9:51].

11:45 - Anakin (after Kit Fitso tells him to use the Force to create a bubble for Padmé to breathe from):  "I'm on it."  Probably just coincidentally, Luke says the same thing in A New Hope, after Red Leader warns him to avoid blaster fire [1:47:08].

13:47 - Tamson:  "Well, Nossor Ri, would you like to join this pitiful little fish and his dead father?"  Palpatine also uses the description "pitiful little" in Return of the Jedi:  "It was I who allowed the Alliance to know the location of the shield generator.  It was quite safe from your pitiful little band." [1:32:45].

Tuesday, September 20, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E2 - "Gungan Attack"

0:54 - Count Dooku (about Lee-Char):  "Do not underestimate this boy, Tamson."  Warnings against underestimation occur twice in Return of the Jedi.  Luke tells Jabba, "It's your choice, but I warn you not to underestimate my powers" [24:26], and later Yoda tells Luke, "Luke, do not, do not underestimate the powers of the Emperor" [43:31].  In The Phantom Menace, Nute Gunray advises a battle droid, "These Jedi are not to be underestimated" [10:43], and in A New Hope, Vader tells Tarkin, "Don't underestimate the Force" [1:16:33].

2:23 - Anakin:  "We're gonna have to get ourselves to the surface and get off this rock."  Luke uses a similar expression in A New Hope; after C-3PO asks if there's anything he can do to help, he replies, "Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock" [19:58].

5:45 - Riff Tamson:  "Spring the trap."  The circumstances are different, but Obi-Wan also says this in Revenge of the Sith [8:16].

7:24 - Anakin:  "Our only hope is that Master Yoda can send help in time."
Captain Ackbar:  "No, Prince Lee-Char is our only hope."

Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

10:46 - Padmé:  "Anakin, it's your move."  In Revenge of the Sith, Obi-Wan says this to General Grievous:  "Your move" [58:07].

15:50 - Jar Jar:  "Ani, meesa so happy to see you."  He has a similar greeting (to Obi-Wan) in Attack of the Clones:  "Meesa so smilin' to seein' yousa!" [7:53].

Tuesday, September 13, 2022

The Clone Wars - S4E1 - "Water War"

6:42 - Captain Ackbar:  "It's an attack!"  This is patterned after his famous "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03].

8:54 - Ahsoka:  "Blue leader, standing by."
Clone trooper:  "Red leader, standing by."

There's a similar sequence in A New Hope where the pilots report in before the assault on the Death Star:  "Red ten, standing by."  "Red seven, standing by."  "Red three, standing by."  "Red six, standing by."  "Red nine, standing by."  "Red two, standing by."  "Red eleven, standing by."  "Red five, standing by." [1:45:26].

12:42 - Lee-Char (to Ahsoka):  "Get us out of here!"  In A New Hope, Han Solo also says this (to Chewbacca):  "Chewie, get us outta here!" [55:26].

14:20 - Kit Fisto:  "We seem to have won this round."  Padmé uses this same phrase in The Phantom Menace, referring to the Trade Federation battle droids:  "They win this round" [1:58:17].

16:49 - Captain Ackbar (to the Mon Calamari soldiers and clone troopers):  "Steady, steady."  In The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar also says this (but to the Gungan soldiers) [1:48:30].

18:37 - After running his mini-sub into a Hydroid Medusa, Kit Fisto smiles, like he does in Attack of the Clones:

---

According to the Star Wars website, Riff Tamson, the shark-like Separatist commander in this episode, is a Karkarodon.  This species name seems to be derived from καρχαρίας, the Greek word for shark.

Tuesday, September 6, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E22 - "Wookiee Hunt"

2:42 - O-Mer: "We feared the worst."  In A New Hope, one of the rebels says the same thing to Leia when she arrives on Yavin IV:  "When we heard about Alderaan, we feared the worst" [1:38:45].

4:04 - Trandoshan (as Ahsoka jumps into the window of the ship):  "What the?"  In Attack of the Clones, an alien on Coruscant makes this same exclamation as he sees Obi-Wan flying through traffic while hanging from a droid [15:08]; Han Solo says it in A New Hope after emerging from hyperspace into a meteor shower [1:03:15], and in Return of the Jedi, a scout trooper says this after being hit by Wicket [1:05:38].

12:55 - Ahsoka (to Chewbacca):  "We need your help."  Queen Amidala says almost the same thing to Jar Jar in The Phantom Menace ("I need your help" [1:37:55]); Obi-Wan to Padmé in Revenge of the Sith ("Padmé, I need your help" [1:38:44]); and Obi-Wan to Luke in A New Hope ("I need your help, Luke.  She [Leia] needs your help." [36:03]).

19:02 - One of the items in the Trandoshan trophy room is the crystal skull from Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull:

19:54 - Ahsoka (to Garnac):  "You're beaten."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Vader also says this (to Luke):  "You are beaten" [1:50:02].

Tuesday, August 30, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E21 - "Padawan Lost"

1:36 - Anakin (to Ahsoka):  "Don't get cocky."  In A New Hope, Han says this to Luke after he shoots one of the Death Star's sentry ships:  "Great, kid!  Don't get cocky." [1:35:27].

3:15 - Anakin (to the clone troopers):  "Steady, steady.  Wait for my move."  In The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar also says, "Steady, steady" (but to the Gungan soldiers) [1:48:30].

5:02 - Anakin: "Where could she [Ahsoka] be?"  Luke has a similar line in A New Hope as he's trying to raise C-3PO on his comlink:  "Where could he be?" [1:22:12 and 1:23:19], and C-3PO himself has a similar line a bit later in A New Hope:  "Where could they be?" [1:29:33].

12:23 - Jinx (to Ahsoka):  "There were other Padawans here that once thought as you do now."  This bears some similarity to what Vader says to Luke in Return of the Jedi:  "Obi-Wan once thought as you do" [1:24:48].

20:12 - Kalifa - "Please, Ahsoka, leave me."  As he's dying, Anakin says basically the same thing (to Luke) in Return of the Jedi:  "Now, go, my son, leave me" [2:00:45].

Tuesday, August 23, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E20 - "Citadel Rescue"

1:04 - Anakin:  "We're gonna have to fight our way off this rock."  In A New Hope, Luke disdainfully refers to Tatooine using the same expression; after C-3PO asks if there's anything he can do to help, Luke replies, "Not unless you can alter time, speed up the harvest, or teleport me off this rock" [19:58].

3:15 - Sobeck (to Dooku, about the hyperspace coordinates):  "I will see to it that they are soon back in our possession."  While the specific diction is a bit different, Vader says something similar in A New Hope during a meeting on the Death Star:  "The plans you refer to will soon be back in our hands" [37:52].

4:00 - In the background of this shot, Commander Cody jumps on top of a crab droid and fires his blaster into it.  In Revenge of the Sith, an-other clone trooper does the same thing [1:20:01].

[source]

6:34 - Anakin (to Ahsoka, discussing the Jedi's role in the war):  "But we aren't soldiers; we're peacekeepers."  Mace Windu also says this in Attack of the Clones, although slightly differently:  "We're keepers of the peace, not soldiers" [4:49].

6:49 - Ahsoka:  "Did you hear that?"
Even Piell:  "Yes, we're going to have company."

Both of these lines also appear in A New Hope.  At the beginning of the movie, C-3PO asks R2-D2, "Did you hear that?" [2:47] (incidentally, this is the first line of dialogue), and later, Han yells, "Luke, we're gonna have company!" [1:15:46].

7:13 - Sobeck:  "Tighten your grip, K2-B4."  Leia uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "The more you tighten your grip, Tarkin, the more star systems will slip through your fingers" [57:44].

12:35 - Sobeck:  "I will deal with this personally."  It's probably coincidental, but this seems to combine Grievous' line "I will deal with this Jedi slime myself" in Revenge of the Sith [58:03], Vader's line "See to it personally, commander" in A New Hope [8:42], and Vader's "I will deal with them myself," referring to the Rebel strike force, in Return of the Jedi [56:10].

16:05 - Wilhelm scream (Clone trooper)

20:36 - There's a brief musical cue of the Imperial March as Tarkin and Anakin shake hands.

The Clone Wars - S3E19 - "Counterattack"

3:17 - Count Dooku:  "You may cease the propriety, Commander Sobeck."  Vader says basically the same thing (to Moff Jerjerrod) in Return of the Jedi:  "You may dispense with the pleasantries, commander" [3:58].

15:26 - Anakin (to Rex):  "Throw me a charge."  Han Solo says the same thing in Return of the Jedi:  "Throw me another charge" [1:51.25].

The Clone Wars - S3E18 - "The Citadel"

4:55 - Fives (about being carbon frozen):  "Are, uh, we sure this thing is safe?  I don't want to end up a wall decoration."  In A New Hope, C-3PO also asks this (to R2 about the escape pod):  "Are you sure this thing is safe?" [7:18].  The "wall decoration" part is a reference to what later happens to Han Solo in Return of the Jedi.

6:52 - Tactical droid K2-B4 (to the Republic's re-programmed battle droid):  "What is your cargo?"  In Return of the Jedi, Admiral Piett asks a similar question:  "Shuttle Tydirium, what is your cargo and destination?" [55:27].  More generally, the whole situation of sneaking into enemy territory in a stolen ship is similar.

Tuesday, August 2, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E17 - "Ghosts of Mortis"

1:45 - Ahsoka (speaking about the Jedi shuttle):  "After that, I have no guarantees she'll hold together."  In A New Hope, Han Solo (referring to the Millennium Falcon) uses the same expression:  "Don't worry; she'll hold together" [1:34:57].

3:29 - Father (to Anakin):  "Do not underestimate my son."  Warnings against underestimation occur twice in Return of the Jedi.

5:25 - Qui-Gon:  "Remember your training, Anakin:  trust your instincts."  This is similar to what he tells him in The Phantom Menace:  "Feel, don't think; use your instincts" [57:47].

8:08 - Father (to Obi-Wan):  "You cannot interfere!"  This is similar to what Obi-Wan says to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back:  "If you choose to face Vader, you will do it alone.  I cannot interfere." [1:24:25].

9:25 - Anakin's vision of the future includes Obi-Wan's "You were my brother, Anakin" from Revenge of the Sith [2:00:25], Vader's "I hate you" from Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15], and the Death Star's destruction of Alderaan from A New Hope [59:05]:

10:20:  Son:  "Join me, and together we will destroy this emperor you see in your vision, and we shall end war, corruption, and suffering throughout the galaxy."  As in the previous episode, there's a resemblance between this line and what Vader says to Luke in The Empire Strikes Back ("Join me, and I will complete your training" [1:50:39] and "Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son" [1:51:45]) and what Dooku says to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones ("You must join me, Obi-Wan, and together we will destroy the Sith!" [1:33:07]).

11:50 - Anakin (to Obi-Wan):  "You will try to stop me."  In Revenge of the Sith, after Obi-Wan says, "I will do what I must," Anakin replies with a similar line:  "You will try" [1:47:46].

13:43 - Ahsoka:  "Mm, nice job."  She says this about Obi-Wan's progress in climbing out of a chasm.  It's a bit unclear whether she means this genuinely or sarcastically, but if it's the latter, there's a resemblance to Obi-Wan's sarcastic "Good job" about Anakin and Padmé's attempt to rescue him in Attack of the Clones [1:45:00].

20:07 - When the Father dies, he disappears in the same way that Yoda does in Return of the Jedi [45:07].  Obi-Wan's death in A New Hope [1:32:22] is similar but occurs in between shots, not within a single shot.

---

Starting around 8:33 during Anakin's conversation with the Son, there's a brief musical cue that's similar to "Battle of the Heroes" from Revenge of the Sith, and there are musical cues of the Imperial march at the end of Anakin's vision and at around 11:44 when Anakin talks to Obi-Wan.

Tuesday, July 26, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E16 - "Altar of Mortis"

1:42 - Son (to Anakin):  "Join me, and together we can change the balance of the universe, my friend."  Twice in The Empire Strikes Back, Vader says similar things to Luke:  "Join me, and I will complete your training" [1:50:39] and "Join me, and together we can rule the galaxy as father and son" [1:51:45], and in Attack of the Clones, Count Dooku says something similar to Obi-Wan:  "You must join me, Obi-Wan, and together we will destroy the Sith!" [1:33:06].

3:03 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin):  What in the blazes are you talking about?"  He uses this same expression in Attack of the Clones:  "What in the blazes is he [Anakin] doing there [on Tatooine]?" [1:22:27].

6:56 - Obi-Wan:  "Anakin:  always on the move."  He uses this same expression to describe Anakin in Revenge of the Sith too:  "Always on the move" [10:01].

8:02 - Father:  "I am not dead yet."  This seems to be a reference to what Obi-Wan says of himself in A New Hope:  "Oh, he's not dead, not yet" [31:24].

8:12 - Son (to the Father):  "I hate you!"  Vader also says this to Obi-Wan near the end of Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15].

13:07 - Son:  "I have done what is right or what is wrong, depending on your point of view."  This seems to be a reference to either Anakin's "From my point of view, the Jedi are evil" in Revenge of the Sith [1:58:33] or Obi-Wan's "from a certain point of view" in Return of the Jedi [46:23].

18:23 - Anakin screams "No!" after Ahsoka falls.  In terms of masters and apprentices, this is something of the opposite of situations in The Phantom Menace, where Obi-Wan screams "No!" after Qui-Gon is struck down [1:59:48], and in A New Hope, where Luke screams "No!" after Obi-Wan is struck down [1:32:24].  In different circumstances, Vader also screams "No!" in Revenge of the Sith [2:08:43], and Luke does so in The Empire Strikes Back [1:51:30].

Tuesday, July 19, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E15 - "Overlords"

0:59 - Anakin:  "Oh, come on.  That's impossible.  Something's wrong.  We're at the exact coordinates where the distress signal originated, but there's nothing here.  Rex is at the exact same coordinates, and he's not here."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Luke also says, "That's impossible" [1:51:21].

1:21 - Obi-Wan (after the shuttle loses power):  "Not good."
Ahsoka:  "Everything's dead, even the life support."

These lines have some similarity to what Anakin says to R2 after they land in the droid control ship in The Phantom Menace:  "Everything's overheated.  Oops, this is not good." [1:58:57].

2:01 - Obi-Wan:  "Everyone strap yourselves in."  Han Solo uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "Go strap yourselves in; I'm gonna make the jump to lightspeed" [56:46].

3:49 - Obi-Wan (in response to Anakin's asking if Obi-Wan or Ahsoka heard Daughter speaking):  "I didn't hear anything."  In The Phantom Menace, Qui-Gon has a similarly dismissive "I don't sense anything" [3:07] in response to Obi-Wan's bad feeling.  The resemblance here, which is probably just coincidental, is more in the delivery than specific diction.  At 3:28, Obi-Wan says, "I don't see anything" after Ahsoka points out a reflection, but this is said in a different manner.

3:57 - Anakin (to Daughter):  "Who are you?"  This too is probably just coincidental, but in The Phantom Menace, Jar Jar Binks has essentially the same line ("Whosa are yousa?" [29:00]) delivered with equal stresses on "Whosa" and "yousa," which is the same way Anakin says it here.

The Clone Wars - S3E14 - "Witches of the Mist"

2:12 - Count Dooku holds two lightsabers to Savage in the same way that Anakin does to Dooku in Revenge of the Sith [14:08], although none of the shots really match:

3:52 - Dooku (to Savage):  "Concentrate."  Yoda also says this (to Luke) in The Empire Strikes Back [1:08:40 and 1:16:38].

4:03 - Savage (to Dooku):  "What you ask is impossible."  Luke says something similar to Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back:  "You want the impossible" [1:11:21].  Moff Jerjerrod, speaking to Vader and referring to the Emperor, has the same complaint in Return of the Jedi:  "But he asks the impossible" [4:21].

4:37 - Savage (to Dooku):  "I hate you!"  Vader says this to Obi-Wan near the end of Revenge of the Sith [2:00:15].

6:50 - Anakin salutes Brother Viscus after he releases him.  Perhaps coincidentally, in Return of the Jedi, Luke gives a similar salute before feigning a jump into the Sarlacc pit [32:32], and Han and Lando salute each other after Han lends the Millennium Falcon to Lando [52:20].

17:22 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin, about Savage):  "We'll take him together."  He also says this (also to Anakin) in Attack of the Clones, referring there to Count Dooku [2:04:54].

Tuesday, July 5, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E13 - "Monster"

20:31 - Knox screams, "No!" after his master is struck down.  The same situation is in The Phantom Menace (Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon) [1:59:48] and in A New Hope (Luke and Obi-Wan) [1:32:24].  While the context is different, Vader also screams, "No!" in Revenge of the Sith [2:08:43], and Luke does so in The Empire Strikes Back [1:51:30].

Tuesday, June 28, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E12 - "Nightsisters"

17:00 - Ventress:  "I can smell his [Count Dooku's] stench a parsec away."  This is somewhat similar to what Leia says to Tarkin in A New Hope:  "I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board" [57:17].

The Clone Wars - S3E11 - "Pursuit of Peace"

[I don't have anything to say about this episode yet, but I didn't want to skip over it.  This post is acting as a place holder, and I'll update it in the future if I find something to note.]

The Clone Wars - S3E10 - "Heroes on Both Sides"

The title of this episode comes from a line in the opening crawl of Revenge of the Sith:  "There are heroes on both sides."

5:12 - Padmé:  "If only I could talk to Senator Bonteri."
Ashoka:  "Who's he?"
Padmé:  "He is a she.  A senator in the Confederacy of Independent Systems."

This is the same sort of confusion that Obi-Wan and Anakin experience with Zam Wesell in Attack of the Clones.  Anakin explains:  "I think he is a she, and I think she's a changeling." [22:28].

5:44 - Ahsoka:  "Well, Master Skywalker and I hold what we call 'aggressive negotiations' all the time."  In Attack of the Clones, Anakin says to Padmé:  "And when I got to them, we went into aggressive negotiations" [53:01], which he explains means "negotiations with a lightsaber."  Padmé also uses the phrase later:  "I call it aggressive negotiations" [1:54:08].

8:06 - Battle droid:  "Move along, please.  Move along."  In A New Hope, a sandtrooper has a similar line when, prompted by Obi-Wan's influence through the Force, he directs Luke into Mos Eisley:  "Move along.  Move along." [43:51].

8:26 - Mina Bonteri (to Padmé):  "Hello, old friend."  She also calls her "my old friend" a bit later [12:25].  Perhaps coincidentally, this same phrase is applied to Obi-Wan in Attack of the Clones when Palpatine suggests him as protection for Padmé:  "an old friend, like Master Kenobi" [6:34].  Count Dooku also uses the phrase when he calls Mace Windu "my old Jedi friend" [1:50:24] and just "old friend" [1:56:05].  In Revenge of the Sith Obi-Wan says, "Goodbye, old friend" to Anakin as he leaves for Utapau [51:13], and Yoda refers to Qui-Gon as "an old friend" [2:09:56].  In A New Hope, Leia uses the phrase sarcastically to refer to stormtroopers when she says that she and Luke "ran into some old friends" [1:31:33]; in The Empire Strikes Back Yoda says that through the Force, Luke will see "Old friends long gone" [1:17:05]; and in Return of the Jedi Luke says, "I have a promise to keep to an old friend" [37:37], and Han calls C-3PO "an old friend of mine" [1:11:53].

13:18 - Visually, the Separatist Parliament seems to have been inspired by the British House of Commons:

20:27 - Padmé (about Mas Amedda's claim that the Separatists offered peace negotiations as a tactic to get the Republic to lower its defenses):  "No, that's not true."  Luke has a similar line in The Empire Strikes Back when Vader tells him about his father:  "That's not true.  That's impossible." [1:51:21].

Tuesday, June 7, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E9 - "Hunt for Ziro"

13:52 - Obi-Wan:  "We must be cautious."  He also says this (to Luke) in A New Hope [42:44].

Tuesday, May 31, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E8 - "Evil Plans"

9:04 - C-3PO (to Cad Bane):  "I don't know what you're talking about."  Perhaps coincidentally, Leia also says this (to Vader) in A New Hope [7:56].

9:10 - C-3PO:  "I am a protocol droid, human-cyborg relations."  He uses the same phrase when he introduces himself to Padmé and to R2-D2 in The Phantom Menace ("I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations" [39:03 and 39:26]), to Luke in A New Hope ("And I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations" [20:25]), and to Lando in The Empire Strikes Back ("I am C-3PO, human-cyborg relations" [1:21:31]).  He's about to say the same thing in Return of the Jedi, but EV-9D9 interrupts him, so he gets only as far as "I am C-3PO human-cy-" [11:21].

9:41 - C-3PO:  "I am fluent in over six million forms of communication."  He says almost the same thing in The Empire Strikes Back ("I am fluent in six million forms of communication" [18:38]) and twice in Return of the Jedi ("I am fluent in over six million forms of communication and can readily-" when he's interrupted by EV-9D9 [11:29] and "I am fluent in over six million forms of co-" when he's interrupted by Han Solo [1:11:10]).

14:17 - Cad Bane (to R2-D2, referring to C-3PO):  "Your friend Goldenrod turned out to be a huge waste of my time."  In The Empire Strikes Back, Han Solo also uses this moniker:  "Hurry up, Goldenrod; you're gonna be a permanent resident!" [34:30].

15:24 - Padmé:  "Where can 3PO be?"  Luke has a similar line in A New Hope as he's trying to raise C-3PO on his comlink:  "Where could he be?" [1:22:12 and 1:23:19, the second followed by "3PO!"].  C-3PO himself has a similar line a bit later in A New Hope:  "Where could they be?" [1:29:33].

16:13 - C-3PO:  "We'll be deactivated for sure."  He has two similar lines near the beginning of A New Hope:  "We'll be destroyed for sure!" (referring to himself and R2-D2) [2:50] and "You'll be deactivated for sure!" (referring just to R2) [6:39].

Tuesday, May 24, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E7 - "Assassin"

5:47 - Yoda:  "Always in motion is the future."  He also says this in The Empire Strikes Back [1:17:54].

14:56:  One of the citizens of Alderaan (far left) in the applauding crowd has clothing and a hair style that are apparently meant to be reminiscent of Leia's in A New Hope.

16:55 - Padmé:  "And if you strike my voice down, know that a chorus of thousands shall rise up in its place."  The first part of this resembles what Obi-Wan says to Vader in A New Hope:  "If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine" [1:30:48].

---

At 2:37, there's a very brief musical cue of Yoda's theme, and at 8:35, Leia's theme is heard, which Dave Filoni mentions in the episode featurette on the Star Wars website.

Tuesday, May 17, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E6 - "The Academy"

5:32 - Cadet Lagos:  "I have a bad feeling about this."

17:01 - Satine:  "Ashoka, it's a trap."  Admiral Ackbar says, "It's a trap!" in Return of the Jedi [1:35:03], and Leia says it twice in The Empire Strikes Back [1:39:50].

17:25 - Almec:  "Set for stun."  In A New Hope, one of the stormtroopers aboard the Tantive IV also says this [6:24], and in The Empire Strikes Back, it's part of Vader's instructions to Admiral Piett:  "Prepare the boarding party, and set your weapons for stun" [1:57:09].

Tuesday, May 10, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E5 - "Corruption"

[I don't have anything to say about this episode yet, but I didn't want to skip over it.  This post is acting as a place holder, and I'll update it in the future if I find something to note.]

Tuesday, May 3, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E4 - "Sphere of Influence"

13:21 - Greedo's dice have the same design as Watto's in The Phantom Menace [53:40]:

17:18 - Senator Chuchi:  "Where's your sister?"
Che Amanwe:  "I don't know; we were separated."

There's a similar exchange in Return of the Jedi where Han asks Luke, "Where's Leia?" and Luke explains that "We got separated" [1:02:15].

Tuesday, April 26, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E3 - "Supply Lines"

4:49 - Jar Jar:  "Meesa on a diplomatic mission."  The phrase "diplomatic mission" occurs a couple times in A New Hope.  Captain Antilles tells Vader that "We're on a diplomatic mission" [5.55], and later Leia tells him, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan" [7:58].

Tuesday, April 19, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E2 - "ARC Troopers"

2:43 - Lama Su (after Obi-Wan explains that there may be a Separatist attack on Kamino):  "But the Republic blockade is far too strong.  They would not dare."  In The Phantom Menace, Sio Bibble says the same thing after Qui-Gon tells Amidala that the Trade Federation will kill her if she stays on Naboo:  "They wouldn't dare!" [23:36].

4:10 - General Grievous:  "Commence attack!"  Admiral Ackbar has a similar line in Return of the Jedi:  "Commence attack on the Death Star's main reactor!" [1:54:46]

7:49 - Screenshots don't really do this justice, so I won't include them, but this shot of Obi-Wan riding an aiwha and emerging from beneath the ocean is very similar to a shot of a Kaminoan doing the same thing in Attack of the Clones [50:18].

14:31 - Battle droid (knocking on a door):  "Open up!"  This is similar to a situation in A New Hope where a stormtrooper knocks on the door of the room where C-3PO and R2-D2 are hiding and says, "Open up in there!  Open up in there!" [1:17:57], just from the opposite perspective.

14:46 - General Grievous:  "All too easy."  Vader also says this during his lightsaber battle with Luke in The Empire Strikes Back [1:44:18].

Tuesday, April 12, 2022

The Clone Wars - S3E1 - "Clone Cadets"

3:00 - El-Les:  "CT-782 seems to follow his own path.  He can't do it all alone."  Leia uses this same phrase to describe Han in A New Hope:  "He's got to follow his own path; no one can choose it for him" [1:42:47].

5:05 - Bric:  "If you two would focus on fighting droids as much as you do fighting each other, you might stand a chance out there."  Perhaps coincidentally, this bears some similarity to Obi-Wan's comment to Anakin in Attack of the Clones:  "If you spent as much time practicing your saber techniques as you do your wit, you would rival Master Yoda as a swordsman" [16:30].

8:29 - Commander Colt:  "Start the citadel challenge, version THX, variable 1138."  This is a nod to the title of an-other George Lucas movie, THX 1138.  The number 1138 occurs a number of times in Star Wars.

---

Bric's armor is similar to that of General Veers, Dengar, and the snowtroopers in The Empire Strikes Back (as is Moralo Eval's armor in S4E16 - "Friends and Enemies"):

The Clone Wars - S2E22 - "Lethal Trackdown"

1:48 - Anakin stands at a window in the Jedi temple in the same pose that he stands in on Naboo in Attack of the Clones [59:17] and that Vader stands in on the bridge of his Star Destroyer in The Empire Strikes Back [20:27]:

6:47 - Plo Koon (to Ahsoka):  "We must be cautious."  Obi-Wan also says this (to Luke) in A New Hope [42:44].

20:04 - This quick shot of Aurra Sing's boot adjusting a control on her speeder bike is similar to that of a scout trooper doing the same thing in Return of the Jedi [1:00:14], just horizontally flipped and at a slightly different angle:

Tuesday, March 29, 2022

The Clone Wars - S2E21 - "R2 Come Home"

11:31 - Anakin (to Mace Windu, about using the Force to move the wreckage they're trapped in):  "I already tried that."  In A New Hope, Luke says something similar to Han when he tries to shoot his way out of the trash compactor on the Death Star:  "Will you forget it!  I already tried it; it's magnetically sealed!" [1:19:29].

Tuesday, March 22, 2022

The Clone Wars - S2E20 - "Death Trap"

1:50 - Boba Fett (posing as a clone cadet, when asked what outfit he's from): "327nd."

2:28 - Jax:  "And with the training we got, I feel ready for anything."  In A New Hope, before entering the cantina, Luke tells Obi-Wan, "I'm ready for anything" [44:38].

3:49 - Unidentified clone cadet (about the prospect of serving alongside two Jedi Knights):  "That's wizard!"  Anakin's friend Kitster uses the same expression in The Phantom Menace:  "This is so wizard, Ani!" [54:25].

6:39 - Sgt. Crasher:  "Alright, alright, cut the chatter, men."   Red Leader uses this same expression in A New Hope:  "Cut the chatter, Red Two" [1:45:55].

9:13 - Sgt. Crasher (to Boba):  "Cadet 327, what reaction propels the main engines of this Jedi cruiser?"

14:23 - Wilhelm scream (clone trooper)

20:12 - Aurra Sing (urging Boba to jettison the escape pod of clone cadets):  "Do it!"  In Revenge of the Sith, Palpatine says this to Anakin, telling him to kill Dooku [14:22].

Tuesday, March 15, 2022

The Clone Wars - S2E19 - "The Zillo Beast Strikes Back"

The title of this episode is a nod to that of The Empire Strikes Back.

14:47 - C-3PO:  "We're doomed."  He also says this twice in A New Hope [3:04, 16:02], once in The Empire Strikes Back [1:00:38], and once in Return of the Jedi [10:03].

15:32 - Palpatine:  "I've got a bad feeling about this."

16:31 - Anakin:  "Here's where the fun begins."  Han Solo says this in A New Hope [56:26], and Anakin has a similar line in Revenge of the Sith:  "This is where the fun begins" [3:48].

Tuesday, March 8, 2022

The Clone Wars - S2E18 - "The Zillo Beast"

1:46 - Chancellor Palpatine:  "This bomb is our only hope for victory now."  Leia uses the phrase "only hope" twice in A New Hope ("Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" [35:35] and "You must use the information in this R2 unit to help plan the attack; it's our only hope" [1:38:49]); C-3PO uses it once in The Empire Strikes Back ("Your highness, we must take this last transport; it's our only hope" [31:49]); Obi-Wan uses it once, referring to Luke, in Return of the Jedi ("You were our only hope" [47:24]); and Luke uses it once, referring to Leia, in Return of the Jedi ("If I don't make it back, you're the only hope for the Alliance" [1:19:39]). Sio Bibble also uses it in The Phantom Menace: "Our only hope is for the senate to side with us" [23:48].

8:47 - Mace Windu:  "I have a bad feeling about this."

9:42 - Wilhelm scream (clone trooper)

10:01 - Mace Windu (to clone troopers as Anakin distracts the Zillo Beast):  "Now's our chance; let's go!"  Han Solo has a similar line in A New Hope, when the lightsaber duel between Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi distracts the stormtroopers on the Death Star:  "Now's our chance; go!" [1:32:02].

Tuesday, March 1, 2022

The Clone Wars - S2E17 - "Bounty Hunters"

16:26 - Hondo:  "But you know what I always say:  speak softly and drive a big tank."  This seems to be patterned after Theodore Roosevelt's "Speak softly and carry a big stick."

18:37 - Hondo:  "Die, Jedi scum!"  C-3PO (with his head on the body of a battle droid) has a similar line in Attack of the Clones:  "Die, Jedi dogs!" [1:53:27].  Insults involving scum also appear in Revenge of the Sith (General Grievous calls Anakin "Jedi scum" [19:12]), The Empire Strikes Back (Admiral Piett remarks, "Bounty hunters!?  We don't need their scum." [1:05:52]), and Return of the Jedi (an Imperial officer says, "You rebel scum" [1:33:51]).

The Clone Wars - S2E16 - "Cat and Mouse"

0:58 - Anakin:  "Master Kenobi better get here soon or this is gonna be one short rescue mission."  This bears some similarity to what Han Solo says in A New Hope (also referring to Obi-Wan):  "I hope that old man got that tractor beam out of commission or this is gonna be a real short trip" [1:32:55].

3:33 - Admiral Trench:  "I have won this round."  Perhaps coincidentally, Padmé uses this same phrase in The Phantom Menace, referring to the Trade Federation battle droids:  "They win this round" [1:58:17].

5:08 - Obi-Wan (to Anakin):  "I need you to run a mercy mission down to the planet's surface" and a bit later (5:26):  "I need you to continue the mercy mission."  Darth Vader also uses the phrase "mercy mission" in A New Hope when he says to Leia, "You weren't on any mercy mission this time" [7:47].

11:48 - Bail Organa:  "Help us, General Kenobi; you're our only hope."  Obviously, this echoes Leia's line "Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi; you're my only hope" in A New Hope [35:35], but this whole episode is also an example of what she refers to at the beginning of her message:  "General Kenobi, years ago, you served my father in the Clone Wars..." [35:05].

17:04 - Trench: "And your friends on the planet below shall perish as a result of your failure."  This has some resemblance to what Palpatine says to Luke in Return of the Jedi:  "And your friends on the Endor moon will not survive" [1:44:25].

18:18 - Anakin:  "Well, no ship this small usually has a cloaking device."  Captain Needa has a similar line, referring to the Millennium Falcon, in The Empire Strikes Back:  "No ship that small has a cloaking device" [1:07:49].

The Clone Wars - S2E15 - "Senate Murders"

0:37 - An-other reuse of a shot originally from "Rookies" (S1E5) that copies a shot near the end of Attack of the Clones [2:13:51]:

1:55 - Padmé:  "'Exciting' isn't exactly the word I would use."  C-3PO has a similar line in Return of the Jedi:  "'Exciting' is hardly the word I would choose" [51:29].

4:17 - Padmé:  "Committing more troops to the front lines will not allow diplomacy to resume."  Padmé uses a similar phrase in Revenge of the Sith when she says to Anakin, "Now you're closer to the Chancellor than anyone.  Please, ask him to stop the fighting and let diplomacy resume." [41:55].

9:19 - Senator Organa:  "We should double our efforts on the vote."  Moff Jerjerrod also uses this expression in Return of the Jedi:  "We shall double our efforts" [4:38].

15:39 - Senator Organa:  "If we hurry, we might still be able to catch Deechi before he leaves the Senate."  Perhaps coincidentally, this bears some resemblance to C-3PO's ruse in A New Hope where he tells some stormtroopers:  "They're mad men!  They're heading for the prison level; if you hurry, you might catch them!" [1:22:27].

The Clone Wars - S2E14 - "Duchess of Mandalore"

0:18 - Narrator:  "A diplomatic mission!"  Like I mentioned two episodes ago, the phrase "diplomatic mission" occurs a couple times in A New Hope.  Captain Antilles tells Vader that "We're on a diplomatic mission" [5.55], and later Leia tells him, "I'm a member of the Imperial Senate on a diplomatic mission to Alderaan" [7:58].

3:30 - Deputy Minister Jerec:  "The actions by our government have taken us into a period of civil war."  (He says this in both the falsified recording and the unaltered one at 18:16.)  The phrase "a period of civil war" also appears in the opening crawl of A New Hope:  "It is a period of civil war."

4:59 - Satine (to Palpatine):  "You will turn our planet into a military target, which will bring the war to us."  Tarkin also uses the phrase "a military target" in A New Hope when he's talking to Leia:  "You would prefer another target?  A military target?  Then name the system!" [58:12].

In both the episode trivia and the featurette for this episode on the Star Wars website, it's noted that the Coruscant plaza is based on a Ralph McQuarrie painting.

The Clone Wars - S2E13 - "Voyage of Temptation"

0:18 - Narrator:  "Sent to investigate allegations that Mandalore was joining Count Dooku's Separatists, Obi-Wan was reunited with an old friend, the Duchess Satine of Kalevala."  Perhaps coincidentally, the phrase "old friend" is also used in Attack of the Clones (where Palpatine suggests "an old friend, like Master Kenobi" to protect Padmé [6:34] and Count Dooku calls Mace Windu "my old Jedi friend" [1:50:24] and just "old friend" [1:56:05]), in Revenge of the Sith (where Obi-Wan says, "Goodbye, old friend" to Anakin as he leaves for Utapau [51:13] and Yoda refers to Qui-Gon as "an old friend" [2:09:56]), in A New Hope (where Leia sarcastically says, "We, uh, ran into some old friends" when Han asks her and Luke where they've been [1:31:33]), in The Empire Strikes Back (where Yoda says that through the Force, Luke will see "Old friends long gone" [1:17:05]), and in Return of the Jedi (where Luke says, "I have a promise to keep to an old friend" [37:37] and Han calls C-3PO "an old friend of mine" [1:11:53]).

In the "Creating Mandalore" featurette on the DVD, Dave Filoni says that the design of Mandalore has a "Nordic flavor."  The name of Satine's home world is also one of these Nordic-inspired elements; Kalevala is the title of a Finnish epic poem.

10:34 - Anakin (to the clone troopers as assassin droids attack):  "Get behind me."  In A New Hope, Han Solo says this twice to Chewbacca as stormtroopers attack [1:17:12].

12:28 - Obi-Wan: "I sense it too."  Here, he's referring to the fact that one of the senators is a traitor, but he also says this in Attack of the Clones when he and Anakin perceive intruders in Padmé's room [14:08].

19:47 - There's a brief cue of the Imperial march as Anakin kills Tal Merrick*.

*There's some discrepancy in how Merrick's name is spelt.  In the credits, it's Merrick, but on the Star Wars website, it's Merrik.
